Archer IV is a planet orbiting 61 Ursae Majoris. It was one of two planets named after famous Starfleet explorer Jonathan Archer. To date, Archer is the only person in human history to have two planets named after him.

History[]

Shortly after the launch of the Enterprise (NX-01) in 2151, the planet was discovered by the ship while they were on a mission to explore a nebula. After learning that the planet was Minshara class, but had no intelligent life forms, Archer and the other members of the crew decided to perform a more detailed survey of the planet. What the crew did not know initially was that much of the native flora and fauna emitted a pollen with toxic levels of tropolisine. Prolonged exposure to the pollen led to humanoids having hallucinations and becoming extremely paranoid. (ENT episode: "Strange New World")

Because of the presence of the pollen, what would've been an excellent candidate for human colonization unsuitable for settlement at the time of Archer's initial survey of the planet. It would not be until the early 23rd century that humans were able to eliminate the pollen from the planet's surface, and settlement of the planet was able to proceed. By the mid 23rd century, Archer IV became a major Federation colony - with a population of approximately 700 million people. (ENT episode: "In a Mirror, Darkly, Part II")

In the mid-24th century, the USS Enterprise-D was due to visit the planet for a diplomatic conference between the Federation and the Klingons. (TNG episode: "Yesterday's Enterprise")

The planet is the source of the beverage Archerian slug wine. Quark thought that replicated slug wine was not as good as the real thing from Archer IV. (DS9 novel: The 34th Rule)

Alternate timeline[]

In an alternate timeline in which the Federation and the Klingon Empire were at war after the disappearance of the USS Enterprise-C from a battle at Narendra III, the planet Archer IV was the site of a battle between the Federation and the Empire. The Enterprise-C had entered a temporal rift and traveled forward 22 years in time, and was encountered by the Enterprise-D shortly after the battle. This timeline was erased when the Enterprise-C reentered the rift and reappeared back at Narendra III. (TNG episode: "Yesterday's Enterprise")

A planet with the name 61 Ursae Majoris IV has a chance of being randomly generated outside of player characters' territories in each campaign of ST video game: Infinite.
