Maxia Zeta was an uninhabited star system located near the Ferengi Alliance. Its name comes from the fact that it is the sixth-brightest star in the constellation Maxia, as seen in the sky of the Berengaria system. The Maxia Zeta system contained twelve planets with the habitable zone encompassing the orbits of Maxia Zeta III and Maxia Zeta IV.

History and specifics[]

All of the planets, moons and planetoids were very mineral rich with high quantities of dilithium, latinum, verterium and topaline having been discovered. The inhabitable planets were also deemed to be perfect for colonization.

In 2355, the Ferengi Raider-class scout, Seventy-Fifth Rule, under the command of DaiMon Flax, entered the system on a survey mission to chart the mineral wealth of the planets in the system.

At the same time, however, the USS Stargazer entered the system on a survey mission to search for planets ripe for colonization. The Seventy-Fifth Rule and the Stargazer finally encountered each other near Maxia Zeta V and a pitched battle ensued when the Ferengi scout opened fire on the Stargazer, resulting in the Ferengi-named Battle of Maxia. At the conclusion of the battle, the Seventh-Fifth Rule was completely destroyed and the Stargazer had to be abandoned by its crew due to massive battle damage, fire and radiation leaks in key areas.

Shortly after the battle, DaiMon Bok, Flax's father, and his ship was the first to arrive in the system and learned the fate of his son. However, Bok had the stricken Stargazer towed away as an instrument for his eventual revenge on her captain, Jean-Luc Picard. (TNG episode: "The Battle"; TNG novel: The Buried Age)
