💧 News Alert // Top Companies in Water There are reports, per Bloomberg, that leading water firms Xylem and Veralto are eyeing DuPont Water Solutions to tie the knot through a potential acquisition. This news comes shortly after Reese Tisdale discussed DuPont's plans to spinout its water business with David McGimpsey on The Water Values Podcast (June 18 episode - "Reimagining Desalination with OceanWell's Jonathon Haswell"). If anything, this report adds color to the discussion about convergence (i.e., M&A) vs. divergence (i.e., spinout) trends among multinational companies with strong positions in the water sector. Key points Bluefield Research's team of experts are considering: // DuPont announced in May plans to split the current $12B company into three publicly traded companies- New DuPont, Electronics, and Water. What are the impacts of a stand-alone Dupont Water business? // Word on the street, if sold, the Water business, alone, could fetch $6B+ including debt. How does this rank compared to other water deals? // Veralto was just spun out of Danaher Corporation last year and Xylem is digesting its relatively recent acquisition of Evoqua Water Technologies. What would this mean for the two suitors? The food & beverage manufacturing industry is placing a greater focus on water and #wastewater management, aiming to mitigate risks associated with #waterscarcity and #waterquality. In the wake of population increases, evolving consumer preferences (i.e., plant-based foods), and a heightened focus on #corporatesustainability (i.e., #brandmanagement), opportunities for #watersolutions providers are set to grow in parallel. Bluefield has forecasted that the food and beverage sector will invest US$112 billion in #watermanagement through the end of the decade—particularly in China, the U.S., and India. This sector's projected annual growth of 4% is influenced by economic and regulatory factors—especially in developed regions, where rising wastewater treatment costs (i.e., utility surcharges) underpin moves to on-site treatment and reuse. More analysis available in Bluefield's new #IndustrialWater Quarterly Review (for clients): https://hubs.ly/Q02zMpGX0 For a deep dive on the sector, see Bluefield's report: Water for Food & Beverage: Market Trends and Forecasts, 2024–2030 (available for purchase): https://hubs.ly/Q02zMvPj0 Air Liquide, Chevron, Ecolab, Gradiant, Iberdrola, Intel Corporation, Kemira, Keppel Ltd., Micron Technology, NextEra Energy, Inc., PepsiCo, Samsung Heavy Industries, SAUR, Shell, TSMC, Veolia, Veralto, Xylem

Growing Focus on Water Drives M&A and Strategic Rebranding Ethan Edwards, Bluefield's Senior Analyst, has identified three recent examples of top companies in water rebranding to better communicate with investors and customers. - In April 2024, Aegion Corporation rebranded as Azuria Water Solutions to clarify its water focus. - In Feb 2023, Veralto spun out from Danaher Corporation, putting water acquisitions in focus. - And in Feb 2023: Select Energy Services Ltd rebranded as Select Water Solutions, underscoring water's role in the oil patch. And more companies in water are repositioning: DuPont recently announced its intention to separate out its DuPont Water Solutions business as one of the three independent, publicly traded companies. The merger of SouthWest Water Company and Corix has led to the newly formed Nexus Water Group. UGSI Solutions also rebranded to cleanwater1 in 2023, a year after being acquired by #privateequity firm Baird Capital.
