Extreme rainfall events have become more frequent. We have been experiencing in New Zealand several extreme events (such as the rainfall on the last few days). 'Green infrastructure has been increasingly identified as an option to help manage climate change impacts in urban areas, although its implementation is still not widely promoted in urban planning. This is because of the lack of detailed analysis for decision-makers regarding construction and maintenance costs for different types and how effective various measures are at managing precipitation at a catchment scale. This paper contributes to fill this gap in knowledge by developing a green infrastructure cost-effectiveness ranking index (GICRI) able to evaluate the stormwater runoff volume reduction of multiple green infrastructure alternatives under different climate change scenarios, over differing spatial configurations and combining this performance data with their construction and maintenance costs.' Cities often find it difficult to use each other as models for stormwater infrastructure planning because of its inherently site-specific nature. Two identical copies of the same stormwater control measure (SCM), for example, might differ significantly in their performance based on their surrounding geography, the amount of rainfall they receive, and how their owners measure success. A recent study published in Environmental Research: Infrastructure and Sustainability advances sector-wide efforts to enhance infrastructure information-sharing by building an inventory of SCMs currently operating in 23 U.S. cities that represent eight distinct climate types. When you park your car in a parking lot you are probably not thinking about #stormwater -- but there is a direct correlation. Parking lots are made of impervious surfaces (i.e., concrete, asphalt, and other surfaces that do not allow for water to seep into the ground) which exacerbate both flooding and water pollution leaving stormwater runoff with nowhere else to go. In fact, nearly one-third of the U.S. 470,000 assessed water bodies are classified as impaired, with stormwater runoff—from urban areas, roadways, and agricultural operations.
