Thank you Neil Henty, Tom Freyberg and Aquatech for the opportunity to contribute to this piece on smart water that's on Aquatech Online this week. And in particular, for including my comment that: "The future of smart water is to go beyond volumetric analysis, to consider the value of water – who is using it, how much, when, where, and for what. This could be particularly useful in developing value-based water pricing frameworks, which could help transform the financial sustainability of some water utilities and other entities whose viability might otherwise be marginal.” That, at least, is our view at Watermarq. https://lnkd.in/ewx7QTiZ

The number of smart water metering endpoints in North America and Europe is set to more than double by 2028, Berg Insight has reported. In a recent report, Berg Insight estimates that the number of water AMI endpoints in North America will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 11.3% over the next five years, while that in Europe is expected to grow at a rate of 16.3%. Over the past two decades water AMI solutions have evolved, opening up new possibilities for water utilities to make substantial enhancements of operational efficiency, reduce non-revenue water and greatly improve water conservation schemes, Berg Insight points out. “Today, the term smart metering has become a buzz word within the water sector that is to be considered synonymous with the concept of AMI.” https://lnkd.in/gCwyQXQW Itron, Inc. "Water distribution sensors detect deficiencies such as leaks, low water pressure and changes in pH levels. These mechanisms have found applications in federal agencies and dam management, enabling timely alerts for potential breaches. Additionally, they can provide live data to optimize asset visibility, improve service and reduce unnecessary visits from utility providers. As water distribution sensors gain influence in both public and private sectors, water management itself is poised to become more sophisticated and responsive to real-time data."
