About us

Anglian Water supply water and water recycling services to more than six million domestic and business customers in the east of England and Hartlepool. Our services are at the heart of every single family and community in our region. We clean water to the highest standard, deliver it to millions of homes, and carefully manage it to ensure it never runs out. We’re the largest water and water recycling company in England and Wales by geographic area. We’re also one of the driest regions in the country, with just 600 millimetres of rain each year, on average a third less than the rest of England. In fact some areas have a lower annual rainfall than Jerusalem. That’s why it’s vital that we look after the water that we’ve got.

We’ve just published our 2023/24 Annual Integrated Report. The report reflects on this year’s strong financial performance, as well as the challenges and achievements from across the business.   This year, we’ve faced a backdrop of sector and operational challenges, driven by climate change and a continued cost-of-living crisis. But we’re proud of the progress we’ve made. From helping an unprecedented number of vulnerable customers to investing a record amount into the prevention of pollution and spills.   Tomorrow, we find out the draft determination from Ofwat on our business plan for 2025-2030. If approved, this plan sets out our largest and most ambitious plan yet, worth over £9 billion. Read more https://lnkd.in/gdZMq3pJ   #AnnualReport #CapitalInvestment #BusinessPlan

Nature-based solutions, like treatment wetlands, are a key part of our vision for the future. With a growing population, our sewer networks are having to process increasing amounts of human and domestic waste, so we’re always looking for more natural alternatives. As seen in this BBC article, the power of wetlands is not to be underestimated. In addition to helping naturally remove unwanted chemicals, they also have a positive impact on our region’s river health and biodiversity. Our work with NORFOLK RIVERS TRUST on the #Stiffkey and #Ingoldisthorpe wetlands has demonstrated the true benefit partnership working can have on environmental quality. These wetlands are only the start. If approved by Ofwat later this week, our proposed business plan for 2025-2030, proposes a record investment of £4 billion to enhance the environment. This includes an ambitious goal of building nature-based solutions the equivalent of football pitches. Today, our CEO Peter Simpson and future CEO Mark Thurston attended a Business in the Community event in #Wisbech where we were jointly showcasing the #FutureFens programme – a place-based approach to protect the Fens against the impacts of climate change and deliver social prosperity for one of our region’s most deprived areas. On the back of the event, Anglian Water and its alliance partners, announced £2m of partnership funding for new Green Skills Academy in Wisbech, which will fund the training of 900 people in vital environmental skills. The Fens in the East of England are among the places most exposed to the impact of climate change. On the frontline of rising sea levels, at growing risk of severe tidal flooding, and located in the driest part of the country, where water shortages are, without investment, a very real and increasing risk. But despite these challenges, this landscape has over half of the UK’s most fertile land. Dubbed the breadbasket of Britain, it supplies a fifth of the nation's crops and one third of its vegetables, so it protecting it is vital. During his time as CEO at Anglian Water, Peter Simpson has played a pivotal role chairing a taskforce to bring like-minded leaders and companies together with a vision for The Fens; creating a pipeline for green jobs, better transport links, and new housing projects, centred around a reservoir that will be used for flood alleviation as well as water supply.  Demonstrated as a global exemplar of landscape-scale climate adaptation at COP26 in Glasgow in 2021, Future Fens: Integrated Adaptation is a longstanding collaboration between local, regional and national partners including Anglian Water, the Environment Agency, Water Resources East Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority and Lincs CountyCouncil to realise the opportunities and potential within this area. Delivering clean drinking water to our customers while keeping our people safe is our top priority – and it’s what our customers tell us they care about most, too. In the face of population growth, ageing infrastructure and increasingly unpredictable and warm weather putting significant pressure on the UK’s water networks, collaboration is key to tackling these challenges. That's why our alliancing model is at the heart of our capital delivery strategy. Our new Integrated Maintenance, Repair and Developer Services (IMRDS) alliance, builds on this principle and marks the continuation of a 9 year relationship, with the exciting prospect of a further 6 years of collaboration between Anglian Water, Kier Natural Resources, Nuclear & Networks and Clancy. With each partner offering specialised expertise, IMRDS will bring together the best person and team for each job, ensuring we can give our customers the best service possible in the most effective and efficient way. Dave Ward, Director of IMRDS, said: “Whether it’s through proactively renewing our network, protecting our most vulnerable mains from the effects of climate change, or ensuring that people moving into their newly built homes are safely connected to mains water, the IMRDS alliance will continue to play a fundamental role in delivering water to customers’ taps over the next five years. “The strength of the IMRDS alliance is in the partnership between Anglian Water, Kier and Clancy. Together, we work to keep our people safe, deliver for our customers, and take care of the environment. I look forward to everything we will achieve as the IMRDS Alliance over the coming years. Today, we welcome Mark Thurston to Anglian Water, who will officially take up the post as CEO on 5 August. Mark joins us at a pivotal time as we prepare for our largest and most ambitious business plan and infrastructure programme. Hot, dry and growing, our region faces a challenging backdrop as temperatures increase, the population grows and rainfall becomes more erratic. Our five-year plan is about ensuring we're resilient to these challenges and can continue to provide vital services our region needs, for decades to come. Mark’s substantial experience across major infrastructure will be a huge asset during this crucial next phase as we deliver a strategic pipeline to keep taps flowing for generations, create more nature-based solutions to enhance the environment than any other part of the country, and continue planning for two new reservoirs. #CapitalDelivery #MajorInfrastructure #WaterInvestment #ClimateChange

With no change in the Bank of England’s interest rates, the cost-of-living crisis is still at the forefront of many people’s minds. So, it comes as no surprise, that customers are worried about the future of their water bill, as revealed in the latest annual #WaterMattersSurvey from the Consumer Council for Water (CCW). Over the last five years, we’ve put forward a customer support package worth £336 million - £70 million this year alone. This covered a range of support including discounted tariffs, payment plans and breaks and forgiveness schemes for tens of thousands of customers. Our support for vulnerable customers is sector-leading and we've met our five-year target more than a year ahead of schedule to ensure customers are getting extra help when they need it. With the highest percentage of customers on the priority services register (PSR) across the industry, we’re extending our package of support even further over the next five years. In our proposed business plan for 2025-2030, we’ve outlined our biggest package of support yet, including a novel Medical Needs Tariff funded by shareholders. If approved by Ofwat, our plan will support all customers at risk of water poverty in our region. Our latest blog, sets out our commitment to customers and the extra measures we’re taking to keep bills affordable and taps running ➡https://lnkd.in/g86u6ezA #CustomerSupport #PriorityServices
