📈 The right kind of access to data is vital in tackling the big challenges we face in society – from the earlier detection and treatment of disease, to reducing pollution in urban spaces. 📊 Josh D'Addario, Principal Consultant at the Open Data Institute delves into smart metering and data institutions in his guest blog where he argues that: 👉 Policymakers need to enable the DCC to make the data flowing through the smart meter network available for public benefit. 👉 Industry actors need to support initiatives like the DCC’s Data for Good, Icebreaker One’s Open Net Zero and others to allow for more of the data they hold to flow through trusted intermediaries. Josh commented: "Only with committed and energised collaboration can we ensure the data from the smart meter network is delivering value to a country and planet in crisis." 🌱 Sustainable progress alert! 📈 The European Union is stepping up its game with the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) and it's changing how data centres operate. For the first time, operators from Dublin to Athens will report key metrics on energy and sustainability. 🔍 Here's the twist: not all data is readily available, notably for colocation operators. Reporting on ICT equipment and data traffic could mean reshaping customer relationships to comply with the EU's green framework. To navigate these challenging waters, the EUDCA Knowledge Hub is your compass. They've pulled together all the insights - with explanatory docs and up-to-date transposition tables tracking member state practices. #EnergyEfficiency #SustainableData #EURegulations

With big data comes great responsibility. The European Data Act, which entered into force this month, will ensure fairness in the digital environment by clarifying who can create value from data from connected devices and under which conditions. From connected cars to wind turbines, it will: 🔹 clarify who can use what data and under which conditions; 🔸 ensure customers can effectively switch between providers; 🔹 make data transfer easier while preserving confidentiality; 🔸 prevent abuse of contractual imbalances; 🔹 regulate public sector access for specific public interest purposes. The European Data Act marks a key milestone in our digital transformation journey safeguarding European fundamental rights. “The Data Act entered into force on 11 January 2024 and it will become applicable in September 2025.” There’s a lot of good/interesting stuff in here: Model clauses to address ‘legal certainty’ questions around generation of data.. Public Sector Body routes to access/use private data for emergency response.. Common European Data Spaces..

It was a fantastic opportunity to present at Future Digital Twin conference on the criticality of a robust data infrastructure to enabling digital twins. At Wood, we help clients in the digital asset management and in the data operations space by supporting them with identifying gaps in their data infrastructure. We then work to help build a strong data foundation, including cleaning up data, implementing proper tag management, establishing asset hierarchies, providing use case implementation support, ensuring connectivity within the data infrastructure and building up 1D, 2D, 3D, and even 7D data models. Importantly, we also ensure the right data governance is in place, manage the change process, and provide organizational buy-in support. This is vital as so many of our clients are getting ready to implement digital twin solutions or other use cases where high-quality, well-managed data is fundamental - which is the case across a wide range of industries.#digitaltwin #data #digitalintegration #modernization #digitalisation
🌟 Event Recap: The Criticality of Data to Enabling Digital Twins 🌟 Shirley Ike, Global Director, Digital Consulting, Wood Group discussed how the fundamental of digital twins is the data. At Wood they focus on two markets, energy and materials. Shirley discussed the lifecycle management of data, “A key aspect of data is that you want to be able to ensure an easy handover from engineering all the way to commissioning to operation. For the storage you need a robust infrastructure that can handle all large volumes of data at that speed.” “Start with a well-defined strategy and a clear set of goals. Invest in data infrastructure and implement lifecycle information management.” Thank you to Wood for their support as a Silver Sponsor of #FDTUSA! Next stop, Amsterdam for Future Digital Twin 7-8 October. Stay tuned for more great event recaps! Check out our upcoming events: https://lnkd.in/gfiH3brM #oilgas #digitaltwin #digitaltransformation
