Outside the Enterprise, The Days of Intake - to - Orchestrate are Numbered! There's a lot of mid-market mania now around intake and orchestrate, but this is not necessarily a good thing because, in the long run, someone's going to get hurt. Why? As I laid out in my marketplace madness article (linked below), I expect a number of these to fail over the next 18 months or so (even though they definitely won't be the first, second, or even third line casualties of over-explosion in the number of startups, the drying up of funding in general, and delayed/reduced "solution" buying at many organizations), and the reasons are very simple 1) 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 = 𝐏𝐚𝐲 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐕𝐢𝐞𝐰 Now, PPV might work great for big-time sports events that you can't see in person (or couldn't afford an in-person ticket to), especially if you don't want to pay for a 24/7/365 premium sports channel, but let's face it, 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐘 𝐁𝐄 𝐏𝐀𝐘𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐎 𝐀𝐂𝐂𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝒀𝑶𝑼𝑹 𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐀? If your solutions are all SaaS based, then ANYONE should be able to access them, so if your sourcing/procurement solution doesn't support intake, why not switch to one that does?!? 2) 𝐎𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 = 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐰𝐥 Sure, it ties your apps together, but it's yet another solution to manage AND pay for. Why not get a core procurement application with a fully open API that can bind all the other modules you need -- why get yet another solution entirely? 3) 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞-𝐭𝐨-𝐎𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 = 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐞𝐟? Talk to an old Pro who was doing Procurement back before the first modern tools began to be introduced in the late 90’s and they’ll tell you that they don’t get this modern focus on “orchestration” and managing “expenses” and low-value buys because, when they were doing Procurement, it was about identifying and coming up with methodologies to strategically managing multi million (10, 50, 100+) categories across the organization ... not counting nickels and dimes (that was the job of Finance) ... 4) And, 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭? Enterprise who can't easily rip and replace anything, yes, but there are only 500 Fortune 500s and 3000 Global 3000s and that won't support many providers. However, mid-market down, it's not that hard ... there are a number of integrators that specialize in data transfer and will consolidate, cleanse, and enrich your data in the process, which you want to do anyway if you want to use modern analytics / machine learning applications! https://lnkd.in/dz4qukwu

"   The research cites attempts to dive into the reality of consumer perceptions regarding our 'privacy preserving' actions."   Spoiler: consumers aren't buying it either!!   ❓ What’s what: A study at the Federal Trade Commission Privacy Con explored consumer perceptions of #onlineadvertising #privacy. Led by Klaus Miller, it surveyed ~1700 US consumers, analyzing both intrinsic and instrumental privacy aspects. https://lnkd.in/e7B8i4dg   ❗ Why it matters: Results: While PETs like the Google Privacy Sandbox offer technical improvements, they do not necessarily enhance consumer perceptions of privacy. Behavioral targeting was found to significantly violate consumers' intrinsic privacy preferences, while contextual targeting viewed more favorably.   ↔ Between the lines: Despite efforts to enhance privacy through PETs consumer perceptions of privacy violations remain largely unchanged. While keeping data on the consumer's device improves perceptions, the method of targeting—whether at the individual or group level—it does not significantly impact perceived privacy violations.   🔍 Zooming out: This underscores the need for a consumer-centric approach to online privacy. The industry needs to prioritize consumer perceptions and educate them about privacy practices to align technical solutions with consumer expectations. Welcome to doomscrolling for the streaming ad market. As much as Amazon is the de facto giant in ecommerce, the company has sort of played second fiddle to the likes of Netflix, Disney, and Paramount among others in streaming. While the expansion into live events with the NFL is noteworthy, Amazon’s move to convert its entire Prime Video subscriber base to an ad-supported version has truly reshaped the ad market. And, the impact extends beyond streaming services and into the entire advertising landscape. Amazon is becoming the ad industry's "3 Body Problem". Dominate ecommerce, maximize revenue through subscriptions, and monetize its Prime customer base. Netflix, sure. But, Amazon's impact is now rippling towards Alphabet and television networks as well. The strategy with its huge customer base is already impacting negotiations these platforms are having with advertisers for the upcoming TV season, leading to a significant decrease in ad prices for everyone. "Stranger Things" or not, Amazon has Netflix doing the unthinkable given its own positive growth - cutting ad rates - and even going further by introducing new options like product placement to lure advertisers. The numbers tell the story with Netflix now offering brands $29-$35 to reach 1,000 viewers, a steep discount from last summer's $39-$45. Like the dueling interests in "Bridgerton", someone definitely holds the advantage. Amazon's ad-supported Prime Video has 115 million monthly viewers in the U.S. alone, while Netflix's ad tier has 40 million global monthly active users. Dominant numbers on both sides, but you know who you'd pick first in a game of dodgeball. You don't need to re-watch episodes of "Silicon Valley" (though you should) to see that Amazon is meticulously building itself into a killer app for advertisers. By combining premium content, live sports, and a massive user base, they offer unmatched and scary targeting capabilities. Advertisers can not only reach their ideal customers but also track purchases made directly on the platform - the holy grail if you will. "Squid Game" for ads, anyone? Netflix is certainly making its own foray into live events, recently winning rights to broadcast two NFL Christmas games as well as becoming the new home of WWE Raw come 2025. It's even cut the mustard with a unique live event: "Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef," a hot dog-eating showdown featuring legendary rivals Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi. The chase for "The Crown" is afoot. All of this underscores Netflix's strategy to hook viewers with unconventional live programming and through diversified content offerings. Triangulating research insights has become a core part of my work. I’ve been collaborating with colleagues across roles and business units to better understand what we know—and very importantly what we don’t yet know—in an effort to build a more robust and complete picture of how people are using our solutions and the problems they are working to solve. This process of relationship building and cross-organizational collaboration has strengthened my own research, facilitated learning from my colleagues (thank you!), and enhanced my ability to provide research recommendations that speak to the business. Question for my fellow research and design colleagues: are you including broader industry sources in addition to internal research studies in your triangulation efforts?
