PERPLEXING POLL. Warren Buffett once said, "It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it." But are either still true? — Last year, NVIDIA didn't even show up in the Axios/Harris Top 100 Reputation rankings. This year, it is #1. — Bayer wasn't on last year's list either. The #TEConnectPodcast is on its way to #VARTECH2023 next week, but before that, Dean & John discussed #emergingtechnologies with Intel Corporation's Justin Christiansen. Specifically, they wanted to know how Intel approaches the "risk" of new, cutting-edge solutions. We started by asking Justin for some practical stories about innovative technology truly transforming experiences for companies. He begins with a use case from GE HealthCare and their critical care suite. They asked hospital staff what they wanted #AI to do for them and found that adding the technology to X-rays could improve performance and spot rare conditions that technicians could miss. Other examples? Loss prevention for retailers and crowd analytics for sporting events. Dean points to the great ISV partners that Intel has brought to the channel as perfect examples of what can be done to broaden a VARs solution portfolio. "When you tap into what Intel can bring on the compute side and the engineering side, it's a win-win." John thinks that some of the best companies are those founded by people who simply saw an opportunity to solve an "unsolvable" problem. They call out partners (and previous pod guests!) like meldCX, WaitTime, and Pathr.ai as examples of this. Intel vets these solutions to see what's "commercially repeatable" to ensure it not only addresses the needs and outcomes customers want but can also be deployed in similar situations elsewhere. "We're tapping into that from the BlueStar perspective," Dean adds, "leveraging some of the marketing initiatives we have around In-a-Box solutions where the whole idea is to enable the partner to mitigate the risk and the anxiety in the marketplace." How should VARs prepare their customers for the wave of AI solutions? Justin calls on the increasing push for data at the edge. "By 2025, Forbes predicts that more than 75% of all enterprise data will be created and processed outside of the data center." That brings up concerns about latency and privacy. "We should be talking to end customers about how we meet their security needs, how do we meet their privacy needs, how do we fit in the regulatory environment?" The goal is to take those answers and build collaborative solutions with partners that address those needs. Intel will be at VARTECH with us next week and sponsoring our annual #TEConnectLive event. Justin told us to expect an emphasis on outcome-based selling, partners they can help scale, and repeatability.
