Medical Guardian alert systems

How Medical Guardian works

Medical Guardian alert systems are designed for at-home or on-the-go use. With either type of system, when you press the medical alert button, you’re connected to a 24/7 medical monitoring center.

Once connected to an operator, you describe your situation. The operator then gets you the appropriate help, whether that means sending an ambulance or contacting people you know for non-emergency support.

If the operator can’t confirm your safety after the alert is activated — for example, if you’ve had a stroke and can’t speak — emergency medical services are automatically dispatched to your location.

Medical Guardian costs

As of publishing, Medical Guardian’s monthly cost starts between $29.95 and $44.95. If you want fall detection, expect to pay $10 more per month. There’s no activation fee, and shipping costs $12.50.

Medical Guardian has two system options: You can lease the equipment (MGMini, Mobile 2.0 and MGClassic) or purchase it (MGHome Cellular and MG Move).

If you opt for leased equipment, you don't have to pay anything upfront. Instead, you pay a monthly fee that covers the equipment lease and monitoring services. Just keep in mind that the equipment belongs to Medical Guardian, so you’ll need to return it at the end of your contract or if you decide to cancel. Failing to do so will result in additional charges.

One thing to be mindful of is the company’s cancellation policies and restocking fee. A reviewer in California said: “I would have to wait 30 days from the receipt of the equipment to refund my money, plus [the agent] mentioned I would have to pay a $50 restocking fee.”

“Even though I called and canceled, they keep charging $49.95 per month,” a reviewer in Ohio said. They disputed the charge with their bank, but the bank “came back saying that [Medical Guardian] proved I agreed to it. I had to cancel the card!”

Additional equipment

Additional equipment — Elite 911, fall detection pendants and wall buttons — are available for purchase. For $6.99 more per month, you can get an MG Protection Plan, which provides extra support and equipment replacement.

  • Fall detection pendant: For an extra $10 per month, you can get a water-resistant fall detection button. It comes with a lanyard and is worn around the neck.
  • Elite 911: For an extra $9.99 per month, you can get a one-button speaker box that automatically connects to the 911 operator nearest you. It works on any cell network and has an unlimited range of coverage.
  • Voice-activated wall button: For an extra $5 per month (per button), you can get a device that automatically calls ADT’s monitoring center if you say "Call Medical Guardian” twice. It’s water-resistant, making it ideal for bathrooms and kitchens.
  • Wireless wall button: For an extra $2.99 per month (per button), you can get an extra water-resistant button. It’s easy to install and works within 500 feet of the base unit.

You may be eligible for a prorated refund for any unused prepaid service period, but it’s possible you will have to pay a restocking fee. Please note that the refund process may take up to 30 days after Medical Guardian receives your system or cancellation letter.

Do Medical Guardian emergency response services require a landline?

Only the MGClassic package requires a landline. All other Medical Guardian plans can run on a cellular network.

Does Medical Guardian offer a warranty?

Medical Guardian provides a warranty against wear and tear. It also offers a Protection Plan that covers any costs related to a lost, stolen or damaged device. This optional plan can be purchased when you buy the system.

Is Medical Guardian worth it?

Medical Guardian alert systems can be a smart option for those who have a critical medical condition, have a high risk of falling or are in recovery from a significant health event. You can select from in-home, mobile and smartwatch devices.

We like that Medical Guardian has a wide range of equipment options, and its straightforward purchase process is helped along by representatives. It’s also one of our top picks for systems with fall detection and medical alerts with GPS.

All devices are monitored and can connect you to a dispatch center that can get you the help you need 24/7. The MGHome Cellular has a range of 1,400 feet — one of the largest we’ve seen on a home-based system.

Medical Guardian provides peace of mind for the whole family. My siblings and I were all contacted by Medical Guardian to let us know our mother's alert had sounded, but she wasn't responding to their questions as she had done in the past. Because of this immediate notification, we quickly made a plan and my brother found her soon thereafter. She had been in a horrific car crash. Now, several months later, she is finally back in her home...always wearing her Medical Guardian Mini.

Medical Guardian is the best thing that has happened to me in a long time. It has given me confidence in my daily life. I have not had a fall since joining. I averaged 8 to 10 falls a year before and had to call EMS for assistance due to my knees. Knowing someone is on the other end of my necklace despite where I am takes a lot of pressure off me. I have been called several times through my necklace because of accidentally hitting the button so I know they are paying attention to my every move. Searching long and hard I felt this company was the best there was and I recommend it highly. You won't regret it.

I had Blood Clots in my legs which caused me to be unsteady and due to falls. Medical Guardian had the device which will monitor a fall even when I can not call. I can change the Microphone so the green light is blinking and take it with me when I leave the house. Knowing if I need help all I have to is talk in the unit around my neck and no matter where I am they will respond! I have used their product for over 2 years and I can not complain. They will call at times to check to be sure everything is alright. Plus you get emails with useful information.

I don't do around the world explanations. BUT know this; I have used it twice in the past 3 years and am 100% satisfied. PLUS, I test it every month at least once. ALL is excellent. Enough said; it is well worth having it. Robert **. Heidelberg, Mississippi.... And I / we live very very rural. I am in the sticks / swamp in southern, mississippi.

The Alert unit is for my active 91 year old mother who lives with us. I compared two products recommended. While both would have worked, Medical Guardian had clients in our zip code and guaranteed service in our rural area. The product was easy to order, shipped timely and setup was easy. Now my mother doesn’t need to worry that her tremors may inhibit her ability to dial her phone for help. Help is just a push of a button away.

I purchased this yesterday and immediately canceled it within 30 minutes. When I got cancellations on the phone yesterday whoever I spoke to said it was canceled. No worries today. The charge is still on my car so I called back and I get Phil and cancellations. Who was very rude to me. Ugly to me And said the equipment already shipped so I gotta wait until it comes in to send it back. It’s just a headache. A hassle that was just too soon to have it shipped out already. I’m sorry..

I called the company to cancel service, as we received a better product from the insurance company. I was told to mail back the equipment. Tracking shows equipment was received June 6, 2024, yet my credit card is still being charged. I called customer service and was asked if I mailed cancellation letter. This is an excuse used by the company to continue charging my card. If they received the equipment and I told them to cancel the service, how can I continue to be charged if I do not have their equipment. Customer service was rude. Stay away from this company unless you want to be aggravated with their service and unauthorized charges.

The service is good about reminding you to test your device every month & they made sure to come out to my father’s house even though it was a false alarm. You can only call during business hours though.

Updated on 06/18/2024: I am a disabled Veteran, this company had my address wrong for more than a year and a half, claims I never reported change.... Duh.... I sold the home, relocated and reported the change, after all I am the one soliciting the service designed to send emergency help to me. I returned my equipment and now they are saying they can't find it. A horrible experience increased by their unwillingness to cancel my service. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SERVICE....

Original Review: I am a former customer, the service had gotten worse for me with no answers during testing, and then me finding out that they had me in the wrong location....I had moved more than 18 months ago and recently found out that they were locating me at my former address....long waits to speak with someone and very unreliable in my opinion. They even questioned if I informed them...well yes...and you continued to bill me using the wrong address and I did not know because it was electronic auto pay....

This company charged my dad $40/month for this "fall" device that didn't even send notification if he fell. He would have to push the button in order for it to work. CRAZY!! He had it less than a week. I told him to return it. He did and they held $150. Don't trust this company!! They are out to steal money from the elderly. My dad is 80 years old. Buy an Apple Watch!! It's less expensive and will send notification to EMS and family/friends (whomever you choose).
