What is CarShield?

CarShield offers vehicle service contracts for new and used vehicles, including motorcycles, ATVs and cars with up to 300,000 miles. The company has six contract options, almost all of which are available on a month-to-month basis, so you aren’t locked into a long-term commitment. Contracts are available both in English and Spanish. Most warranties are transferable, too. All CarShield plans also include access to a customer app that allows you to manage your plan, request 24-hour roadside assistance and get exclusive rewards.

CarShield cost

CarShield’s rates vary widely, but you can expect prices to start around $100 a month. You can buy your coverage on a month-to-month basis at a price-locked rate. That means that your monthly price will never go up once you begin your coverage, and your protection lasts only as long as you want it to. If you decide to remove your vehicle’s CarShield policy, you can conclude your coverage at the end of the month.

Details like contract lengths, deductibles and other fees can be found on the sample policies on the company’s website. The best way to get precise prices is to contact CarShield. You can get a free quote from CarShield by submitting your information via its online form or by calling. CarShield reviews do mention that the quote process can be tricky, with salespeople preferring to call about quotes rather than email.

What does CarShield cover?

CarShield has six protection plans available for both new and used cars, offering protection that ranges from powertrain coverage to a bumper-to-bumper warranty. CarShield’s six contracts are as follows:

Diamond
Diamond is CarShield’s plan that most closely mimics a manufacturer’s warranty, covering up to 5,000 components. It covers everything the Platinum plan does and more, including the following most common components:
  • Engine
  • Transmission
  • Drive axle(s)
  • Transfer case
  • Air conditioner
  • Fuel delivery system
  • Fuel pump
  • Starter
  • Alternator
  • Power windows
  • Water pump
  • Fuel injectors
  • Steering
  • Suspension
  • Brakes
  • Electrical system
  • Instrument cluster
  • GPS
  • Factory audio
  • Radiator
  • Wiring harness
  • Emissions
Platinum

  • Radiator
  • Air conditioner
  • Fuel delivery system
  • Fuel pump
  • Starter

  • Water pump
Aluminum
Aluminum covers electronics- and computer-related components, including the following most common vehicle components:

CarShield’s other plans cover components on motorcycles and ATVs, including the following components, if applicable:

  • Starter
  • Alternator
  • Water pump
  • Fuel injectors
  • Steering
  • Suspension

  • Electrical system
  • Factory audio
  • Radiator

The Diamond plan is similar to a manufacturer’s warranty, often referred to as a bumper-to-bumper warranty. It is the most extensive plan offered by CarShield. CarShield suggests the Platinum plan for older vehicles since it offers significant coverage.

The Gold plan is billed as a good option both for used and high-mileage vehicles, while the Silver plan is CarShield’s most basic and affordable plan. This is a good choice if you want simple coverage at a low price.

The Aluminum plan covers high-tech items, and plans for motorcycles and ATVs offer customized coverage for those vehicles.

The above lists contain only the largest or most popular covered items, so each plan likely includes other parts you may be interested in. For more details on costs and what each plan covers, talk to a CarShield representative.

How does CarShield work?

CarShield provides extended auto warranties for new and used vehicles to protect you against the costs of unforeseen breakdowns. When you need a repair completed, bring your vehicle to an ASE-certified repair facility and file a claim. CarShield helps you find a licensed facility through its Shield Repair Network. Once you pay a small deductible, your selected plan pays for the rest of the covered repairs.

Make sure to read the terms and conditions of your contract so you fully understand what CarShield covers. Contracts are available in English and Spanish. Most CarShield contracts are also transferable, meaning the warranty can still cover the car even if you sell it. This can increase the value of your vehicle.

Additional CarShield benefits include towing, roadside assistance and rental cars, app access, and a map locator for ASE-certified repair facilities.

CarShield FAQ

Is CarShield a rip-off?

No, CarShield is a legitimate company offering extended vehicle warranty plans. Before settling on any warranty company, it is important to do your research and understand its cancellation and refund policies, along with its various plan offerings. Doing this early on helps you decide what is right for you and avoid scams or rip-offs.

How much does CarShield cost a month?

CarShield does not offer pricing on its website, as costs vary based on your vehicle’s type, age, mileage and coverage. However, CarShield plans could cost you as little as $2 per day, depending on your selected plan. No matter which plan you’d like to go with, you can get a free quote by calling the company’s customer service or submitting a form online through CarShield’s website.

Does CarShield cover electrical problems?

Yes, the Diamond, Platinum and Aluminum plans cover electrical issues.

What doesn’t CarShield cover?

CarShield does not cover oil changes or similar routine maintenance issues. It also does not cover oil leaks unless they are a result of engine failure and you have one of the appropriate plans. Be sure to check your plan’s specific coverage policies.

Is CarShield worth it?

CarShield is a solid option, depending on your warranty needs. It offers a wide variety of plans, which can be especially helpful if you aren’t yet sure what kind of coverage you want. Additionally, it provides protection for vehicles with up to 300,000 miles. This makes CarShield a superior choice if you have a high-mileage car.

We like that it offers month-to-month plans— that means that you aren’t locked into a full-year plan. If you decide it’s not working for you, then you can simply not renew your coverage for the next month. Plus, having contracts available in Spanish is a big benefit if you’re not as fluent in English. If you’re looking for an extended auto warranty with a solid reputation behind it, consider CarShield.

I purchased Car Shield 3 months ago and already have had two occasions to use the service. The first was a dead battery. The service arrived in less than 30 minutes and the service tech had thorough knowledge of battery issues and specifically Jeep battery issues. I've had AAA for 20 years and not once I they ever gotten to me or my family in less than 60 minutes.

The second incident was a failed transmission. I called Car Shield and they gave very simple instructions to get the car serviced. In less than 2 days they had a claim being processed and immediately started working with my mechanic. I discovered I had a 14 day rental car period for this particular issue which was a much needed benefit since the one and only source of a transmission is Jeep and they cannot get the part to us for 7 days. Everyone I've dealt with at Car Shield has been totally positive, totally helpful and knowledgeable. I can't say enough good things about this service and I am very fortunate to have bought the protection when I needed it most!

Definitely glad I seen the commercial about CarShield. They save me 3001.00 in repairs and paid for my tow. However the only complaint I had was Enterprise in Leitchfield KY. Horrible service. I was unable to get a rental after 5 days of being lied to by Enterprise. Carshield done their part but hopefully they will get this taken care of with Enterprise. I lost out because of bad service and the lies by the ladies in the office. I lost days of work because of their lies and had put family members out taking me to their location and bo vehicle.

Also in my contract the only money I was supposed to be out was 50.00 deposit that day of pickup. Enterprise was going to charge me 196.00 when the car was available. But they talked badly about Carshield and blamed them when I knew for a fact what my contract states and what Carshield told me before I went to Enterprise. Other than this, I will give them 5 stars for service on the breakdown. They didn't disappoint. Highly recommend if you don't have a warranty. I have peace of mind knowing I'm covered if something else happens to my SUV. Thank you Carshield.

I have a 2011 Chevy Silverado and I decided to purchase an extended warranty through CarShield since I plan to keep my truck for many years to come. The transmission starting to have issues with a worsening slippage between gears. I have had the warranty for over a year and never filed a claim, so I was a little skeptical at first for such an expensive repair. It turns out that Car Shield really does stand by their warranty. They paid the transmission repair shop to fully rebuild the transmission and all I paid out of pocket was my deductible and a very negligeble amount of labor that was above and beyond the amount covered under the warranty. I came out of pocket about $250 total for a repair that would have cost me thousands of dollars. They also made the claim process very simple. Just a couple of phone calls, and they primarily dealt directly with the repair shop. Thank you Car Shield for exceeding my expectations!

When I received a letter from CarShield saying that my contract had expired, I assumed it was an error. I have paid off my contract and my car is still under warranty until 2026! In hearing my dilemma, the representative quickly review my case, retrieved all my information on my account and reconfirmed that my contract was still indeed in force. He was extremely professional, polite and efficient and was able to allay my worst fears that the contract may have expired.

Since I paid off my contract 2 years ago, I have not had a problem with my car and therefore never put in a claim. The customer service experience has always been superb. I wonder if management might consider a rebate on my contract since I have not put in a claim for repairs and especially since my 2016 Honda CRV has ONLY 24,000 miles on it and practically NEW! Maybe I can hope they will seriously consider...

Sorry you’re having trouble finding a local repair shop that accepts our coverage. Some shops refuse to take our coverage, however it is not for the reasons you may think. Some shops refuse to take any outside coverage because they want to be in charge of their own prices. There is a nationally recognized labor guide that tells repair facilities what to charge for what services and things like that. But it's up to each individual shop whether or not they want to follow it. With coverage like ours, we keep shops from overcharging our customers and shops don't always like that. We’re happy to stand on our record of servicing over 2 million customers over our 18 years in business. Not to mention our claims department pays out over $5 million in claims every month. If you need help finding other shops in your area, please give us a call.

The WORST investment made with Car Shield, and always trying to DENY CLAIMS you’ve encounter. Sales team are customer oriented but the Warranty is TERRIBLE. Purchasing Warranty was easily made through Sales Team and their Department gave General Information in basics coverage and they’re able to address payment system from your Banking institution or Credit Card. They’re cordial and wouldn’t call them professional as they “relay unsatisfactory remarks” about other competitive companies that offer Vehicle Warranties.

The Warranty Department is by far the worst Customer Service and always attempting to DENY CLAIMS because whatever so called “By Laws” in the Exclusions Clauses they have in other words “unsubstantiated” reasons, for instance “Carbon Build of engine” that caused ABC, and replied what is the Negative Effects of “Direct Injected” Type engines in modern engineering. Also, there’s no Mandatory Service for “Carbon Build-Up” from the Manufacturer either. Customer Service is unprofessional and they’ll utilize every attempt to DENY every Claim. Overall, NEVER purchase Warranty with this company…!

Had an issue with my left light. Got in touch with car for 800+ repair. CarShield denied the claim due it was a lighting issue. The problem was with the lighting assembly NOT the bulb. I explained the situation with the assembly to three different people. One person understood the situation and approved the repair. Less than two hours later another adjuster denied the claim. I ended up spending over 8 hundred dollars for repairs that should have been covered. I cancelled the contract for I spent days trying to make them understand the situation. It angered me that the company spent more time denying my claim instead of listening to me as a consumer. It further angered me to look at their commercials.

Then said it would be cheaper if I got the parts through them, well they send half of what I needed. Never sent the other part. But I still have carshield because we'll need to be covered but the truck is still not fixed. CarShield is a horrible, horrible service. Avoid them at all costs! I have paid almost $7000 over four years to them, and I have had only one claim (before today) that paid approximately $600. Now I need a new air compressor, and my dealer won't take CarShield anymore because CarShield insists on shipping in outside parts, which they cannot use, so I called CarShield on Thursday to find out who takes them in Memphis. CarShield recommended the shop where I took my car Thursday evening, and now CarShield only wants to pay $671 of a $1700 covered claim! CarShield says they won't pay more than this because the shop doesn't take outside parts. CarShield absolutely KNEW THIS before they recommended the shop because this shop does regular business with them. They should NOT have recommended this shop to me since they know they don't take outside parts!

If I now take my car somewhere else, then I will have to pay the labor costs for the diagnosis work at the shop where my car is now. This is a deceptive business practice and it is infuriating to have paid this much money and not be covered as promised. I will be leaving multiple bad reviews everywhere possible. AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS!!! Also, when I got a representative on the phone, I was cut off and had to start all over again with waiting to get through. They should have called me right back. They have my phone number. You are much better off to save the money that you would pay them in premiums and pay yourself every month. Create a savings account for car problems, but DO NOT sign up for CarShield!
