Pros & Cons

Cons

What is Quicken Loans?

Quicken Loans is an online, third-party marketplace connecting you to lenders and financial solutions. Solutions are available for needs like mortgage refinancing and personal loans. Other comparison solutions include:

  • Credit cards
  • Auto loans
  • Insurance
  • Home services
  • Personal finance

Because Quicken Loans works with a number of companies, you can compare services, rates and other solutions in one spot. This makes finding a lender for your specific financial needs easier.

How does Quicken Loans work?

If you’re looking for cash or loan options, Quicken Loans starts with a short, one-minute quiz about financial need. To compare lenders, you enter information like what the money is going to be used for, when you will use it, credit score estimate, ZIP code, residential history and employment status. With this information, Quicken Loans provides personalized offers from a variety of lenders.

Getting initial offers from Quicken Loans doesn’t impact your credit score, and it is free. If you select a lender and apply directly, the lender will do a hard inquiry on your credit, which temporarily lowers your score. Lending terms and interest rates vary based on your financial profile and credit score.

Loans and loan comparison aren’t the only financial services Quicken Loans offers. You can also apply for and compare credit cards, insurance and home services.

Quicken Loans rates

Quicken Loans is a free online financial solutions tool. It doesn't cost you anything to get a personalized loan offer or other financial solution recommendation. After you’ve compared offers through Quicken Loans, you may be subject to fees and interest rates from the lender you choose directly. Interest rates are based heavily on your personal financial profile. Things like credit score, income and loan amounts all affect interest rates and loan terms.

I initially started with Quicken Loans back in late 2021 when I refinanced my mortgage on my condo and this last time, I didn't refinance my current mortgage. I just took some money out of the equity in my property as a second mortgage. The reps at Rocket Mortgage were great and everything was very quick. I paid off some bills in advance before I got the loan and those didn't show up on my credit. So, when they pulled my credit because the whole point was to pay off some debt, I wound up paying one credit card twice because they worked so fast that I couldn't get it. They paid it off and I had already paid it off.

The rep told me they would get it straightened out before they closed the loan but that wasn't the case. They closed the loan. They sent me some checks and I had to mail out all these checks for all my debtors. I had a negative 5,000 balance and I had to wait some weeks for that to clear on their side before they sent me my money back. I was expecting them to rerun my credit to show that I no longer owe these things so I wouldn't have to pay them and that didn’t happen, so I was a little bit disappointed in that.

Quicken Loans had the right product for me and met my needs at a time when I was doing comparison shopping, and not everybody could. I had good previous experience with a previous mortgage with them, so it made sense to go back. I already had a portal from my previous one, so I was able to go in and put in what I was looking for and somebody called me right away, and the rest we did over the phone. They were efficient and took care of my needs.

My main guy was great. Super responsive, available. I could text him and get a response right away. He listened well. And I got handed off to a couple of people throughout the process, but everybody was great. Also, the terms were good. It enabled me to pay off the credit card debt and give me some cash for some home improvement projects and keep my monthly payments where I needed them to be so I could make them every month. Give it a shot.

Quicken Loans made everything streamlined and simple as they could for me. The guy who was handling my account through Rocket Mortgage was on top of his stuff with telling the appraiser, "No. You need to cater to my client's time." They weren't willing to come out on the weekend, which is the only time I was free. He was like, "No. You need to go out there when he's available, not just when you feel like it." So, that was kind of cool. I like that the reps are into the detail and I like their willingness to give me all the information upfront. Even though my current credit situation wasn't the best, they still were able to help me out. I've always had on-time payments, and they were able to take care of me. We sat down and went over my finances of how much I was paying at the time and how much I was saving. I've been doing the math prior, and the numbers lined up and made sense. I did saved an extra $1,400 a month.

I had a Quicken loan about six or seven years ago and paid that off. I refinanced with another company when the rate went lower. This year, since I'm completely retired and not gonna be working in 2024 at all, I called Quicken and I said I want to incorporate my car payment and my other personal loan and pay all of that off. They redid it all and they didn't really need anything from me since they already had all my information and banking information from before. I closed within a week. They stayed in contact with me the whole week and sent me messages via phone and email to make sure that I understood everything with the loan that I was getting this time. It was really phenomenal.

I really got a good rate, too. The other company that wanted to try to refinance me told me the rate was 14% or 15%. I could not believe that. The one that I got with Quicken was either 5.6 or 6.5. The only thing is I would have rather had the money for my credit card bills online than have a check sent to me. Especially around Christmas, after I closed this, I was like biting my lip because it took 15 to 20 days for the credit card companies to tell me that they received my check.

We went through Quicken Compare to refinance and they're paying off all of our credit cards. They sent me a stack of checks and now I'm having to find addresses. It's very time-consuming because you don't realize that everything is online nowadays. It’s not real easy to find people's addresses to send these checks to. We paid over $10,000 in closing costs and I assumed that they would send these out for me. I've been spending the last two days trying to find addresses to send these checks to. Other than that, everything went great. The rep I was connected with was a doll. I texted her at all hours and she always got right back to me. I even contacted her after the close to ask her when the disbursement might happen and she gave me all the information I needed. The rate and terms were awful, though, but we needed the cash-out of our equity to do some major repairs to our house. It is what it is. I know that isn't anybody's control except for the powers that be but I wish they would lower it a lot.

I was put in touch with an agent at Rocket Mortgage almost immediately and the young man took great care of me. He was great. He was very honest and upfront about what the terms of the loan would be. He came up with two different solutions for my issue and let me see which one would better fit with what I was looking for and we talked about the pros and cons of each of those options. He seemed very knowledgeable and personable, and followed up with me after. It was the easiest loan procedure I've ever been involved with for a home loan. It was fantastic.

Quicken Loans is helping me get my debt thing restructured and a better budget going on. But there's a little $19 check that's part of the cashout that I can't figure out who it's supposed to go to. Other than that, Quicken's reps were well-organized and the lady I first talked to was very helpful and personable. They had good rates, too.

The reps have been wonderful except for this latest one, where I needed to get a second mortgage. The gentleman that I spoke with in the beginning didn't have the right attitude and acted like what I was wanting was a little too much. He was concerned about this and that. He kept passing me around, telling me he'd call me back but never would. I had to reach out to him three more times. Eventually, he passed the buck on me. Once I got with the right agent, it was a great experience. The guy that I ended up with was awesome. He was one of the best I've ever dealt with. I've done business with Quicken for years and the process is great as long as you get the right agent.

Everything with Quicken was fast and efficient. Someone reached out to me almost immediately and started the process. From start to finish, everything was really easy. They walked me through everything. If I had any questions, they were eager to answer. The whole process took two weeks. Everything went straight to the app, and I was able to sign off on everything quickly and do what I needed to do without someone calling me every five minutes saying, "We need this or that."
