About CARCHEX

CARCHEX helps you purchase and maintain your car by offering various vehicle products, including extended auto warranties. Rather than offering its own plans, CARCHEX works with multiple third-party warranty providers. CARCHEX warranty cost

The average price of a five-year contract with CARCHEX is about $1,500. Expect to pay approximately 2 cents per mile of coverage. However, costs vary based on your vehicle’s mileage, year, make and model. The best way to get a better idea of your cost is to get a quote directly from CARCHEX.

CARCHEX lets you pay for your extended warranty over a maximum of 24 months. No down payment is required during this period. CARCHEX accepts all major credit cards, and it has a 30-day, money-back guarantee in case you decide CARCHEX isn’t right for you.

CARCHEX plans

CARCHEX offers five coverage levels that span 16 different warranty plans from different providers.

Plan nameType of coverageTerm lengthsIdeal for
Titanium CoverageBumper-to-bumper7 – 10 yearsComprehensive coverage
Platinum CoverageStated-component5 – 10 yearsShort-term coverage
Gold CoverageComprehensive5 – 10 yearsVehicles with over 60,000 miles
Silver CoverageEssential5 – 10 yearsBasic coverage
Bronze CoverageMajor systems5 – 6 yearsAffordability

Every CARCHEX warranty is, at a minimum, a powertrain warranty. This means that your vehicle’s transmission, drive axle(s) and engine are covered along with the other components that send power to the wheels.

CARCHEX coverage

CARCHEX’s coverage is available for vehicles with up to 250,000 miles. This coverage kicks in after a waiting period of 30 days and 1,000 miles, but this is a fairly standard requirement among extended auto warranty providers. Once you’re past the waiting period, CARCHEX covers authorized vehicle repairs made at licensed service facilities. You can use its mobile app or website to find a vehicle repair facility near you.

All of CARCHEX’s plans are transferable, and coverage is available in California, which isn't true of many warranty providers. However, not every warranty is renewable.

Additional benefits from CARCHEX include:

  • Towing
  • Vehicle lockout services
  • Rental car coverage
  • Roadside assistance
  • Emergency fuel delivery

You can also opt for emissions coverage, key fob protection and luxury electronics coverage.

A CARCHEX auto warranty won’t cover everything, though. Modified or aftermarket components aren’t covered, including lift kits or trailer hitches. CARCHEX also doesn’t cover regular maintenance items like oil changes or consumable parts like tires, wiper blades and spark plugs. Check your vehicle service contract for details.

The website made it seem like CARCHEX was a scam at first. I called the number that it gave me and I got transferred to somebody in sales. Then they transferred me to the sales rep and he was asking if I was calling for this other company. When I told him that I was calling for CARCHEX, he told me to hold on. He put me on hold and he never came back. So, I hung up. Then I called back and that was when it was all legit.

The rep made it seem like everything would be fine and he had my back, which I appreciated. I hope that comes true when it's time for me to use the warranty. Also, he didn't try to upsell me and I had follow-up emails as well. But there wasn't a lot of perks. My representative made it seem like the coverage included mainly the transmission, engine and some extensions. But I kept asking what did he mean by the extension. He told me that the policy covers the air and the windows, but I'm not sure if it covers the battery. Other than that, I told my friend that I like CARCHEX. Most aftermarket warranty companies would request you to drive 1,000 miles and to wait 30 days. But CARCHEX would only require you to wait 25 days and only drive 500 miles. Then, it was for a price that was 15% less fees than the other companies. That's dope.

There was an ad on Facebook for CARCHEX and I clicked on it. They didn't call me and aggravate me with a bunch of promotional calls. There's this one company that is a very prominent name and they aggravate people so badly with calls that I decided a long time ago I wouldn't buy their product if it was the only one on earth. I called the CARCHEX phone number and was connected to someone who was very helpful.

In receiving my written contract, I sometimes scratched my head as I sat here last night and read through that. I'm beginning to wonder what is covered under that contract and what will I actually get in the event that my car does have serious issues. One other thing that I had to read two or three times was the fact that it's so many months or so many miles before the contract ever kicks in. The other part that I question and wonder about is having to have everything approved ahead of time before I can have any work done on my car. But I would have to take the car to a garage first before I know what's wrong with it and then I gotta make phone calls and get somebody on the other end to understand what they're talking about. I'm not sure how helpful this policy is gonna be but I'm gonna try it for a while and see how it goes with it.

I hope I'm not just throwing money away for no service when the time comes. My car is the very first one I ever had and I was in my 70s when I bought it. I'm now in my second year of being 80 and there are no issues with my car. I don't expect or anticipate any. But in the event that something does happen, it's a good idea to carry that CARCHEX contract. So far, I've only been in contact with one person. The lady I talked to was very nice. I got a phone call the other day wondering if I actually had agreed to have that payment put on my credit card. I agreed to a one-time payment.

I decided to check into CARCHEX and my experience was good with a fellow I spoke with. He clearly explained everything to me. I went back over it. And what I didn't understand, he re-explained. He was very patient. So, I decided to go ahead and sign up with him. He explained to me all of it that were perks. We came to a dollar amount arrangement and that helped to seal the deal. Perks are very important. People wanna see what they get for their money and that made it even more enticing for me to go ahead and select CARCHEX.

He had to go over both packages. I was interested in knowing what was covered. I am not well-versed in all the mechanics of a car, but I listened carefully about what I wanted and I wanted the best protection for my car. That's how we arrived at my package. It was much easier than I thought it would be. And he made it simple and said, "And if you have any questions at all, you can contact us about anything." So, I felt rest assured that I was in good hands, that my car was protected and I had the peace of mind I needed and I just had to pay my monthly fee.

The setup was easy, the information was comprehensive, that I had a clear understanding of what I was paying for and what I was getting for my money. And that if they wanted to have somebody, until they prove you wrong by their actions in not fulfilling the agreement, you can trust them. Until they prove me wrong, I'm okay with making my monthly payments.

I went online and checked Carchex, and I talked to the guy. I was impressed with the coverage and everything they had to offer. The deductible was $200 and I said I couldn’t do that because Endurance was giving me a $100 deductible. And the guy from Carchex said they could do the same thing. I told him to do it and not to screw me with another $100 from the beginning knowing well that Endurance was gonna give me that. So with my being a disabled veteran, I got a discount from them. The guy said he would send me a package and I asked if that was a problem. He said no. Carchex shouldn’t give me a hard time with getting my package in because Endurance did that to my buddy. It took him almost three weeks to get the package.

Other agents from Carchex kept on calling me and I told them they needed to get themselves together. The agents are not communicating or they're not checking the computer that I already bought a policy. The first guy was trying to get me to do multiple cars and I said I still have a warranty on my truck. I'm not gonna do anything on my truck until my warranty has expired. So I'm just waiting. This guy was trying to pressure selling me that way and I told him not to do that. I'm not gonna deal with him until December when my truck is paid off. So then, I had this other money that I could work with. Today, this other guy calls me from CARCHEX, trying to talk me into getting that extended warranty on my truck. I said I already talked to Oscar and I already told him my situation. I said he should not bother me anymore or I'll forget about going with Carchex on my extended warranty on my truck.

I used CARCHEX and I'm glad I had it. It saved me a couple of dollars. I also had to pay some money because CARCHEX wanted to send parts to the dealer and the dealer wouldn't accept aftermarket parts. So, that ended up costing me more money out of my pocket, but so far, I'm satisfied. It saved me some money. It was $1,700, and I had to pay $300. I'd rather pay $300 than have to pay the $1,700.

I go to a GMC dealership and I bought several vehicles from them, and we have a rapport together. So, that's where I take my car to get it repaired, and their opinion matters to me. I asked them, "Overall, what do you think about the warranty company?" The dealer said, "Just keep it. Overall, you know, they were pretty good." That means something to me. He could have told me, "It's a piece of crap and don't get them and we'll do something else," but he didn't say that. He complained about the customer service. They had to be on the line for so long, but he told me that he figured out a way to get connected with somebody and they gave him a direct number where he could call. He said a lot of times, they tie them up on the phone and it takes them away from the other customers coming in and out of the dealership. He said, "Now, I know how to go about it."

Not an absolute scam but you certainly do not receive what you expect from this company. Their sales pitch and website make it sound as though you can “pick any repair shop you want including the dealership”. Get an estimate for the work, call to gain approval, have the vehicle repaired and pay your deductible. Wrong. They rely on “national average repair rates and aftermarket parts costs”. What that means is that actually repairing your car will cost far more than their data shows. So you should be prepared for the program to cover maybe 50% of the cost before your deductible. For most repairs, you’d be better off if you simply saved the upfront cost of the warranty program and paid out of pocket for future repairs. Perhaps not a scam but certainly not as advertised on their webpage. Stay away.

They deceive. If repairs are needed, they will find a reason to refuse to pay for the repairs. If you terminate the contract, they do not return the full amount paid under the contract. If you haven’t used it, they still don’t pay. They count how long this contract lasted and calculate the money. They lie.

I purchased their Titanium plan which covered primarily bumper to bumper with $100 deductible. Was told can use any ASE or dealership for repairs. If you buy this plan, expect to pay out of pocket for much more than the deductible amount. They will lowball labor and parts prices. This plan through Carchex is administered by Royal Administration Services. I submitted two claims at different times. The first was for non working AC and a malfunction control arm. Total bill for both these repairs were $990.55 in which they paid only $517.59. Per the mechanic, they would only pay for a used aftermarket control arm part. I was told by the mechanic they could not warranty a used part, so I ended up paying out of pocket $472.96, well over the expected $100 deductible.

Two years later, I needed a fuel pump. Plan paid only $319.58 out of a total bill of $1117.27, leaving me to pay the balance of $797.69. Again, well over the $100 deductible amount. Their methods to determine parts and labor cost do not reflect realistic prices and therefore the plan will end up paying significantly less than one would expect. I have had other extended warranties of which I never paid more than the deductible amount, and wish I would have stayed with those. This plan looks good on paper, but in reality will not pay out as expected. Please look for another vehicle warranty. Based on my two experiences, I would recommend staying away from Carchex/Royal Administrative Services. I would recommend not buying this plan.
