Last week, part of the remove team attended the Negative Emissions Platform summit. ⭐ Here are our key takeaways from the summit: ↳ The showcase of different #CDR pathways, by larger organisations as well as startups was impressive. This included a range of solutions from large scale #BECCS to decentralised #DAC, enhanced weathering and #biochar as well as the presence of #MRV solutions and market makers. ↳ This further confirmed to us that the market is still nascent and developing. #Carbonremoval volumes are growing, but navigating the CDR landscape is still challenging. ↳ The development of MRV methodologies, as well as policy frameworks, is critical in order to establish transparency and trust. Finally, it was great to see so many CDR entrepreneurs, including alumni from our program! Our own Pascal Michel from Everest Carbon is pictured here participating in an insightful panel around Science for Trust. We also got to catch Sebastien Dewarrat join the discussion on a Corporate Climate Claims panel. Here's to keeping the meaningful discussions going on CDR within Europe and beyond!

Carbon dioxide removal (#CDR) is a powerful tool for offsetting hard-to-abate and legacy emissions, but it remains poorly understood and underused. Currently, CDR deployment falls short of the climate-relevant scale required to meet the 1.5°C climate target.   It’s time to change that! More leaders and organizations have to commit to proactive CDR strategies. We’re here to help them turn intentions into action.   Our new report, “From Awareness to Action: The Six Building Blocks for Purchasing Carbon Removal,” is a must-read for decision-makers and #sustainability leads. It outlines the six steps to creating a successful CDR initiative, from stakeholder engagement to securing C-level buy-in. Discover how to implement a CDR #strategy to meet net-zero commitments and become a sustainability leader in your sector.   This report, a collaboration between the BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt, us at remove, and sus.lab | ETH, features insights from insider interviews, the latest research, and practical guidance on CDR in a corporate context. 🎪 Part of the remove team is at Katapult Future Fest this week! The festival started with a bang with mission-driven and impact-oriented founders and investors, convening under the theme “Let’s Gather”. 🌊 One session that stood out to us was titled “Oceans Unveiled as Vast Opportunities for Climate and Biodiversity Investment”. We were glad to see Ocean CDR and Marine CDR feature so prominently in the discussion by the expert panel. It was reiterated that continued action around ocean is vital as SDG 14 Life Below Water continues to be the least funded of all SDGs. With oceans hitting record temperatures day after day, we need to not only move fast with solutions but also at scale. The panel shared their unanimous conviction of oceans becoming a serious contender in the climate solution space. That investing in ocean comes with its challenges, but the ocean community can be creative in the way they work and - despite not being "large enough" or "fast enough" - investments in oceans are increasing. To close, Peter Bryant, Oceans Program Director at Builders Vision shared, "Where we were in 2020 versus where we are in 2024... that gives me hope." Thank you to the awesome panel Sindre Østgård, Nicole Kapel, Markus Böhm, Peter Bryant and moderator Claudia Ukonu for the energising discussion. #carbonremoval #oceanCDR #marineCDR #mCR #oCDR #KatapultFutureFest
