We are happy to be part of the #RFCS project InSGeP - Investigations of Slags from Next Generation Steel Making Processes. It aims to identify the types of slags that can be expected in future #steelmaking processes and also explores and investigates potential paths for their valorization within the existing value chain. Within the InSGeP project, BFI will focus on lab trials in order to provide, analyse and assess slag samples from self-produced DRI, which shall be representative for the future H2-DR route. Further, BFI will assist Saarstahl AG in evaluation of operational EAF trials for creation and modification of slag samples based on partial HBI input. Daniel Adolphy from BFI has joined the project meeting at Tenova in Castellanza.

#RFCS project SmartLadle: At our 6th project meeting on 28 May 2024 in Lulea/Sweden, we discussed the current status of the work as well as the final tasks still outstanding until the end of the project in December 2024. Finally, we also discussed new project ideas. Many thanks to all partners for attending and to Swerim for hosting the meeting! Schmiedewerke Gröditz, Swerim AB, Uddeholms AB, SIDENOR The #steelmaking ladle status is not considered in dynamic adjustment of process parameters, such as stirring gas flow rate and pressure, or for optimum maintenance (relining) – both are performed according to defined static practices and schedules. Thus, the main objective of the RFCS funded project SmartLadle (GA No 101034017) is the online monitoring of the ladle status using a soft sensor supported by a new smart sensor and a data-based solution for the dynamic consideration of the actual ladle status in process control. The BFI is coordinating the project and responsible for the development of a smart sensor for ladle thermal monitoring and numerical modelling (FEM): www.smartladle.eu

Das Projekt SurfConInspect (SCI) verfolgt einen holistischen Ansatz, der sowohl neue Konzepte zur Detektion von Oberflächenfehlern als auch zur Erzeugung geeigneter Kontrollmaßnahmen für eine Null-Fehler-Fertigung in der #Flachstahlproduktion beinhaltet. Das BFI koordiniert das Projekt und stellt sein Know-how und seine Kompetenz für die Entwicklung eines industriellen Prototyps in der Weißblechproduktion von thyssenkrupp Rasselstein in Andernach zur Verfügung. The SurfConInspect (SCI) project follows a holistic approach incorporating new concepts as well for the measuring of surface defects as for the support of adequate control actions to enable zero-defect manufacturing for flat steel production. BFI coordinates the project and provides its knowhow and competence for the development of an industrial prototype at the tinplate production of thyssenkrupp Rasselstein in Andernach.
