We had the best time at „Future Narratives - Smart City” yesterday! The organizers XRBB - Extended Reality Berlin-Brandenburg e.V. & our team from 3IT - Innovation Center for Immersive Imaging Technologies led by Zina Ebden introduced three innovative Fraunhofer HHI-led projects at the event: BIMKIT, #DigitalTWIN & We COMPAIR. They showed digital twins in action and demonstrated how AI and #CitizenScience can optimize building and urban development and promote #sustainable #urbanization. Visitors explored how #XR technologies are shaping the cities of tomorrow, inspired by talks & discussions with leading experts on this subject. Other highlights were SMART SPACE Hardenbergplatz, a pilot project for the temporary use of public spaces, as well as #XReco, an innovative XR content creation tool. This fruitful collaboration has only started. Stay tuned for more updates on this partnership & the next joint event happening Oct 15! Images: © Ines Grabner | INSEL-PROJEKT.BERLIN GmbH

Did you know how versatile electromagnetic waves are? Not only do they form the basis for #WirelessCommunication, but they can also sense physical information from the environment. Check out our new video by Dr. Michael Peter, Dr. Ramez Askar, Sven Wittig and Rodrigo Hernangómez. They tell you more about their latest development, a platform for integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) in the D-Band (110-170 GHz). The platform’s large available bandwidth allows us to recognize human activities and track their position accurately. https://lnkd.in/dkEYGkt4 This work has been conducted within 6G-RIC Research and Innovation Cluster funded by Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung in the program “Souverän. Digital. Vernetzt.” #Sensor #6G #ISAC #Radar #SubTHz

Sophia is one of 65 school girls that visited our institute at this year’s Girls'Day - Mädchen-Zukunftstag. She took part in our workshop „AI WORLD: Doing homework with ChatGPT?“ organized by Prof. Wojciech Samek & Dr. Sebastian Lapuschkin’s research group „Explainable Artificial Intelligence“ (#XAI). The participants trained an AI, got to know various AI tools, discovered some of the limits of current AI, and got insights into one of our core research quests: How AI can be explained. Watch Sophia’s testimony on how the day inspired her and how she even came to hold a small presentation for Federal Minister for Education and Research Bettina Stark-Watzinger. 👉 https://lnkd.in/dcyXxpqK Thank you to the Girls’Day crew, the minister and her team and of course all our colleagues who dedicated their energy and time to make this Girls’Day a success. We are already looking forward to Girls’Day 2025! #WomeninSTEM #GirlsDay

We had a blast at The Long Night of Science! It was a pleasure to open our doors & laboratories to show visitors our latest innovations in #ICT. We brought out some of our most cutting-edge topics: #TerahertzTechnologies, InP-based photonic-integrated circuits (PICs), fiber optic communication and #QuantumEncryption. As well as #6G, volumetric video streaming & our latest #ExplainableAI research. And we would be remiss if we didn’t mention the six demos our video & imaging technologies team prepared to show the various application fields of their technologies: From agriculture to construction, medicine, culture of remembrance and citizen science. Thank you to all visitors – we could not have asked for a more interested audience. And a very big shout out to all our colleagues who made this day possible – especially our showroom team Marc Reznicek, Patty Riedlinger (Fechtler) & their colleagues! Round up of another successful CampusOS consortium meeting – thank you to our amazing team, all participants & especially Elena Kempf-Loeck and her colleagues. The meeting encompassed a #CampusOS satellite workshop and took place June 18 - 20. We welcomed 50 participants at Forum Digitale Technologien. We are drawing closer to the finish line: The first days were focused on preparing guidelines as well as planning our final roadshows and the continuation of the project together with all partners. The workshop day was all about our ingenious satellite projects: KliNet5G, 5G++Flexicell, O5G-N-IoT, CampusDynA, TICCTEC and MAVERIC! All projects continue to make valuable contributions to project blueprints and the plugfest with regard to the building block catalogue. Moreover, they contribute their experience and unique viewpoints to ensure we have stimulating discussions on how to best build an ecosystem for open 5G campus networks. Prof. Slawomir Stanczak (Fraunhofer HHI) and Prof. Thomas Magedanz (Fraunhofer FOKUS) are coordinating the CampusOS project and our efforts to develop a setup of an ecosystem for #5G #CampusNetworks based on open and modular radio technologies (#oRAN) and interoperable network components. As always, it’s a pleasure to collaborate with our partners: Atesio GmbH, BISDN GmbH, Bosch, brown-iposs GmbH, Deutsche Telekom, EANTC AG, Fraunhofer FOKUS, GPS GmbH Stuttgart, highstreet technologies, Kubermatic , Node-H GmbH, MUGLER SE, RT Solutions, Rohde & Schwarz, Siemens, Smart Mobile Labs, STILL GmbH, SysEleven GmbH, Topcon Positioning Systems, Technische Universität Berlin, Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU) Special thanks to the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz for funding the project and above all to Dr. Klaus Glasmacher and Dr. Walter Mattauch for their support.
