Developing flat optical elements that work for many different wavelengths and contain fewer harmful substances. That is the ambition of the AWAVE consortium, led by TU Delft. 🔎 The idea is that these flat optical components will replace all curved optical components, such as lenses, in the future. This ambitious project is funded by NWO (Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek)'s Perspective programme and has a range of potential applications. 💡 Read more on our website 👉 edu.nl/dqabg or scroll through the infographic below to find out more 👇 Nandini Bhattacharya TU Delft University of Twente #mechanicalengineering #technology #optics

Consulting on wireless technology & spectrum policy for technical innovators from an FCC veteran & Wi-Fi pioneer
A key issue in 6G is whether national regulators, ITU and the 6G community can engage in objective dialogues on the possibility of spectrum sharing with passive systems in 71-275 GHz regions under the framework that was adopted in WRC2000's Res. 731 and which basically remains today. When this is needed for mobile links now is debatable, but the need for some of the 6G backhaul/fronthaul is now clear While sharing with passive systems is GENERALLY impossible, the physics of 100+ GHz makes it plausible in that region See https://lnkd.in/ec9shXMQ
What breakthroughs are 6G researchers pursuing to enable the sub-THz future? The team at the University of Oulu's 6G Flagship is tackling this question head-on through their cutting-edge work in sub-terahertz (sub-THz) communications and sensing. In a deep-dive interview with 6G Waves, Aarno Parssinen and Nuutti Tervo outline their ambitious goals for the next two years - namely, developing a fully functional 300 GHz RF receiver that can handle real communication signals. This would push the boundaries of integrated circuit technologies in remarkable ways. But their vision extends far beyond this milestone. The 6G Flagship researchers are pursuing three key themes in their sub-THz research: 🧬 Materials 🔌 Key hardware building blocks 🗺️ System-level concepts and platforms As Tervo explains, "6G is not a system of one frequency band" - the team is innovating across the spectrum, from cm-waves to the THz regime, to enable the transformative capabilities 6G promises. Realising this sub-THz future requires a massive collaborative effort and "hard work by innovative minds," as Pärssinen puts it. But the potential payoff is immense - ultra-high data rates, advanced sensing, and applications we can scarcely imagine. Want to learn more about the 6G Flagship's pioneering work in this space? 👀 Why a session on skill shortage at our upcoming Workshop "𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑵𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑨𝒅𝒗𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒅 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 & 𝑭𝒖𝒏𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔: 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑪𝒐𝒐𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒏 𝑺𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒔"? 📌 The first day of the workshop (May 13-14th) in Athens will dedicate a session on this topic: you will be able to have a comprehensive overview of what is at stake here. The share of students choosing ICT and notably semiconductors disciplines is too low to satisfy the demand required by the labour market. In many countries, including #Europe, the production of STEM graduates will not be sufficient in the next decade if we don’t have an ambitious strategy. The shortage of potential employees with specific knowledge in #semiconductors, and in particular the negligible share of students willing to undertake this field, has many different causes.y 👊 We will tackle this question and discuss of the possible solutions or paths to finding solutions with the European Chips Skills Academy, the ALLPROS.eu Thematic Working Group on Skills, an example of the Fraunhofer IISB concept dedicated to rethinking Education and Training for nowadays semiconductor manufacturing, the #IEEE initiative in line with international cooperation and the SINANO Institute academy. You can register following the link and attend for FREE to the workshop: https://lnkd.in/eUEfUy3N Patrick COGEZ - AENEAS Association, Léo Saint-Martin - DECISION Etudes & Conseil, Leonardo Bulgarelli Freitas - ALLPROS.eu, IEEE, Sabrina A. - Fraunhofer IIS, Giorgos Fagas - SINANO Institute - Tyndall National Institute
