Israel's next-gen inventors aren't building bombs 💣 – they're doing something far more powerful.⚡ My experience judging the BioSense Hackathon in Tel Aviv last week revealed a "surprising" truth about Israel's innovation landscape. Contrary to some popular media narratives, the competition finalists shared a common goal: Protect and Defend. Here are some of the standout innovations: 🟢A portable oxygen generator that replaces bulky, hazardous cylinders, designed to save lives. 🟢An app dedicated to aiding PTSD sufferers and their support networks, significantly easing their daily struggles. 🟢A lightweight, protective neck guard, addressing the 40% of serious battlefield injuries that occur at the neck – again, saving lives. 🟢An AI-powered coating for field vehicles that adapts its colour for better camouflage from drones, enhancing soldier safety. 🟢An ingenious partial substitution of cement with recycled plastics, slashing CO2 emissions and helping to save our planet. It's a powerful reminder that innovation can be a force for good, even in complex geopolitical contexts. Yet technology alone can't solve everything. It's crucial to address the immediate crisis: NOW🎗️ is the time to bring back the hostages and implement a ceasefire.

The BioFense Hackathon was a journey to remember! 💫 Embarking on my first venture of founding, building, and creating a hackathon was nothing short of a monumental task, especially one that spanned an entire month! Back in November, when BioFense was merely an idea, many doubted its viability. They said no one would commit to such a lengthy endeavor, and that people's focus would inevitably shift from aiding our country to tending to their personal lives and recovery. Today, I am proud to say those skeptics were wrong. Through the creation of the BioFense Hackathon, I was fortunate to collaborate with an incredible group of volunteers who believed in this vision as passionately as I did. This is the essence of our remarkable Nucleate Israel community. Together, we meticulously crafted this groundbreaking initiative, bridging academia with industry, investment, and defense. We equipped a diverse and talented cohort with the necessary tools to tackle the most urgent bio-convergence challenges in the context of Israel’s current situation. The results were beyond our expectations: 26 dedicated teams, about 50 mentors and judges, 7 compelling final pitch decks, and a plethora of new collaborations in progress. We succeeded in providing an unforgettable learning experience for our participants, fulfilling our mission to shape the biotech leaders of tomorrow. For many, this hackathon could be the start of an exciting journey into the startup world. I extend my deepest gratitude to my incredible team—this achievement wouldn’t have been possible without our collective effort: Eden Fleshler, Naomi Tawil-Winter, Ankita Lahkar, M.D., Malkah Sokol, Manal Marzouk, Nur Zaid, Ido Meir, Daniel Somekh, Ron Nagar and Sarit Feldman A heartfelt thank you to our sponsors, Teva Pharmaceuticals, DDR&D (MAFAT) - Directorate of Defense Research & Development, Herzog and Walder Foundation, for their unwavering belief in our vision, and to everyone who believed in us along the way. To every aspiring entrepreneur out there: dare to dream and trust your instincts. You might just realize you were right all along! This is only the beginning.

Our team was excited to participate in the Biofense Nucleate Hackathon! Our CTO, Tammy Meiron, Ph.D., challenged students from universities across Israel to develop solutions for long-term #food #preservation that maintain nutritional integrity and taste without refrigeration. Over the past two weeks, our Director of Business Development, Daniel Gamsu, and Technology Analyst, Hadas Sibony Benyamini, mentored these talented students.
