"Solar Thermal Energy on the Rise - Perspectives for Heat #Transition and Sustainable #Fuels". ☀🔥💧🌳 This was the motto of the 𝟮𝟳𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘂𝗺, which was held for the first time this year as a face-to-face event in the new premises of the DLR Institut für Future Fuels and DLR Institut für Solarforschung at the Jülich site. Throughout the day, speakers from research and #industry provided a highly topical insight into the potential of solar thermal energy for heat generation in various application areas and its role in the production of sustainable fuels in cooperation with industrial companies. After the presentations, the guests had the opportunity to visit the nearby Synhelion #DAWN facility, as well as the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V. Solar Towers. This was followed by a lively exchange of expertise in the new premises of the DLR institutes. We would like to thank all speakers for their exciting presentations and all guests for their participation and the subsequent professional dialogue. We look forward to seeing you again next year! #Transfer ☀⚙: From the lab, to initial experiments in the #Synlight, to the breakthrough on the Jülich solar towers and now scaled up to industrial dimensions with its own demonstration plant. Congratulations to Synhelion on the opening of #DAWN, their new pilot plant for the production of solar fuels on an industrial scale! A successful example of knowledge and technology transfer from Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V. to industry for the #defossilisation of the transport sector, especially in #aviation. We wish you every success for the upcoming start of production! #EnergyResearch #SolarResearch #EnergyTransition #FutureFuels
☀ Just in time for the summer solstice, the longest day of the year with the most sunshine, we inaugurated plant DAWN. It is our first industrial-scale demonstration plant for the production of synthetic fuels from solar energy. ⛽ We will now continue to commission the plant to start fuel production soon. With the opening of DAWN and upcoming start of solar fuel production, Synhelion is demonstrating that the technology for the production of solar fuels is ready for large-scale production. ✈ The sustainable fuels produced in Jülich will demonstrate the technology's potential to defossilize the transportation sector, especially aviation. #synhelion #solarfuels #saf #sustainableaviationfuel #solarenergy Swiss International Air Lines Lufthansa Group AMAG Group Pilatus Aircraft Ltd Zurich Airport Ltd Brainergy Park Jülich GmbH ETH Zürich German Aerospace Center (DLR) Empa FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research ISC eFuel Alliance Solar Impulse Foundation World Economic Forum UpLink - World Economic Forum

Research #funding thrives on dialogue between the federal government and advisory networks such as the #CST specialist group of the Renewable Energies Research Network, which advises the BMWK on the direction of funding projects. Due to the current tight federal budget situation and the associated cuts, there is an even greater need to prioritise future research requirements. For the solar energy sector, focussing on electricity, heat and fuels, the following network meeting is intended to serve as a forum for joint position finding on the topic of renewable energies with keynote speeches and discussions. The event will take place online 🌍 Register now! 👇
Update PtJ (15:05 – 15:15 Uhr) "Was erwartet uns im 8. Energieforschungsprogramm?" Tarik Schwarzer, PtJ 2. On Friday last week, Mona Neubaur, Minister for Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Action and Energy of the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia, visited us at the Solar Towers Jülich. On that day, we had the worst weather conditions for solar research - maybe there could not have been more rain. But mirrors also need to be cleaned, right? Well, we had to forgo the drone flight and the walk through the solar field. However, we had engaging discussions during the presentations and the tour of the Multifocus Tower. A day to be remembered! Researchers from DLR, from University of Dortmund presented to Minister Neubaur the progress of the project "5hine" (pronounced "Shine"), funded by the 5G NRW programme and led by the DLR Institute of Solar Research. 5hine addresses the use of 5G mobile communication in the operation and economic efficiency of solar thermal tower plants. In such a power plant, numerous mirrors concentrate sunlight onto a single point, generating high temperatures at the top of the tower. The heat can then be used, for example, for electricity generation. To maintain functionality throughout the day, the mirrors track the sun's movement. Large solar power plants can have up to one hundred thousand individual mirrors spread across several square kilometres. Traditionally, control signals for these mirrors are transmitted from the plant's control centre to each mirror individually via copper cables. In fact, the complete cabling accounts for 5-8 percent of the cost of a heliostat field. The project’s goal is to transition to wireless transmission. The 5hine project tackles this challenge by leveraging 5G mobile communication to handle the extensive data transfer needed for managing numerous heliostats. Beyond just mirror control signals, the communication network must also integrate supplementary information. A crucial step towards automating the plant involves processing data for maintenance and calibration. Within the 5hine project, autonomous drones capture this data and transmit it to the control centre. For more information about the project, please visit: https://lnkd.in/eXk3waWX Patrick Hilger, Pascal Jörke, Henning Hehemann, Lena Weigelin, Charlotte Schröder, Patricia Dr. Peill, Monika Gatzke, Henning Horn, Thomas Schürmann, Fabian Seidel #5G #solarpowerplant
