GlassPoint has partnered with Maaden, Saudi Arabia’s national mining champion and one of the fastest-growing mining companies in the world, to develop the world’s largest solar process steam plant - a 1.5GWth project to convert bauxite into alumina, which in turn is used for aluminum. CEO Rod MacGregor has returned to kick off the company’s re-emergence as a leader in decarbonizing the production of materials essential to the energy transition with today’s signing of an MOU with MA’ADEN in Riyadh.  GlassPoint is the only solution proven at scale to reduce carbon emissions from industrial process heat. We’ve built on this experience by offering a build, own, operate model for capital efficiency and by expanding into new industries like metals and mining which increasingly must meet net-zero commitments. Honored to kick off our first phase of project development today for the world's largest solar thermal project with Ma'aden at the Future Minerals Forum. We're starting with plans for a Technology Showcase, which will will combine direct generation of heat and storage to provide a continuous base load of steam to Ma'aden's Alumina refinery at Ras al Khair.

Maeve Allsup at Latitude Media nails GlassPoint's critical evolution: "GlassPoint is operating on a steam-as-a-service basis, meaning it builds and owns the solar thermal plants, and offers long-term contracts of up to 25 years. And armed with this new business model, the company is expanding its potential applications beyond oil and gas, to the extraction of metals associated with clean energy, including copper, lithium, and aluminum.
