Info

Welcome to our Institute of Engineering Thermodynamics! The current challenges facing society with regard to energy supply require us to reduce emissions, make greater use of renewable energies and utilise energy efficiently. As an institute of the German Aerospace Centre (DLR), we contribute to meeting these challenges of our time and helping to shape the future. With our research at five locations in Stuttgart, Cologne-Porz, Ulm, Oldenburg and Hamburg, we focus on key technologies for energy storage and energy conversion such as fuel cells, electrolysers, batteries and heat storage for industrial applications. These play a decisive role in our energy supply and have a direct impact on competitiveness and prosperity. In addition to energy topics, we also work on topics from the fields of aviation, aerospace and transport. With our scientists, we develop innovative solutions from simulation to implementation in complete systems. Our technologies have a positive impact on a secure, affordable and environmentally friendly energy supply. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and partnerships at national and international level, we help to develop low-emission energy concepts and increase the efficiency of energy systems. Thanks to our specialised focus, we act as a bridge between basic research and industrial development. This means that our work often plays a key role in the introduction of new technologies. With its strategic and long-term research and development work in the field of energy technology, the Institute makes a significant contribution to securing a resource-conserving energy supply. Our institute is not only committed to research, but also to imparting knowledge and training the next generation of scientists. We attach great importance to ensuring that our work is not only theoretically sound, but also practically applicable. Imprint:https://www.dlr.de/en/service/imprint
