We have waited a long time for this moment: the approval documents for our ammonia import terminal in the Port of Hamburg have been submitted! After announcing the construction of the terminal in November 2022 in the presence of the German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Robert Habeck Habeck, and the Mayor of Hamburg, Peter Tschentscher, we have now submitted the approval documents to Hamburg's BUKEA. "With the planned import terminal in the Port of Hamburg, we have the opportunity to implement yet another piece of the energy transition and bring it to Hamburg," says Philipp Kroepels, Director New Energy at Mabanaft. Read more in our press release: https://lnkd.in/eKxEwcKT Thanks a lot to everyone who is part of this! --------------------------- Auf diesen Moment haben wir lange hingefiebert: Die Genehmigungsunterlagen für unser Ammoniakimportterminal im Hamburger Hafen sind eingereicht! Developing e-Fuel projects in Chile 🚀 🌎 INERATEC and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH have successfully completed the feasibility study on the Chilean Power-to-X market within the #H2Uppp Programme. The results in the final report provide a strong foundation for industrial projects that leverage Chile’s vast renewable resources for a sustainable future. Together, we have paved the way of #eFuel production in Chile, focusing on expanding markets for green hydrogen and Power-to-X technologies. In a next step, INERATEC is planning an industrial production plant with the local partners COPEC S.A. and Ferrostaal GmbH to provide sustainable #eFuels at scale.  💡 The International Hydrogen Ramp-up Programme (H2Uppp) of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz) promotes projects and market developement for green hydrogen in selected developing and emerging countries. It is part of the National Hydrogen Strategy, and implemented by Clúster de Energía of GIZ ConoSur (Argentina, Chile, Perú) with the support of AHK Chile.  👀 Go download the final report linked in the comments to read all about the detailed outcomes and strategic insights for the Chilean PtX market! #NextEra #H2Uppp

What hinders the realization of projects? We have often pointed out the problems of the Delegated Acts of the Renewable Energy Directive. High requirements coupled with gaps in the legislation make it difficult to ramp up the market - or even prevents projects. Unfortunately, this is what now happened: the first results of the H2Global Stiftung import mechanism announced today brought both good and bad news. The good news first: the Fertiglobe project marks a milestone and will produce renewable ammonia (100MW electrolyzer, 203MW wind power, 70MW solar power). Congrats to this achievement! Now to the bad news: there was no succesful project for eKerosene to supply the aviation sector due to regulatory uncertainty stemming from those Delegated Acts. We must therefore reiterate that one of the first actions of the new Commission should be to review and simplify the Delegated Acts. We must not allow incomplete legislation to prevent climate protection projects. Here is the slide deck to check out details: https://lnkd.in/deAWwAsq Here are our recommendations on both DAs: https://lnkd.in/dMXHFmx6

How can we achieve climate-friendly mobility? We advocate for a legislative framework that focuses on the target and not on the technology. The consequence of this: maintain the CO2 reduction targets for cars/vans/trucks but change the methodology towards LCA. Emission reduction must take place along a chain of steps, from production to use. This has to be considered when discussing the propulsion technology of the future. While the Renewable Energy Directive RED classifies energy carriers that are renewable (with strict rules, especially for #eFuels/RFNBOs), the CO2 Standards ignore this. Therefore, the tailpipe measurement that is currently applied is wrong. How can we overcome this? The answer is simple: use the framework already existing. RED defines what is renewable. What can be used in other sectors should be allowed in road sector too. We pledge for usage of all emission reduction technologies, widening the focus from electric-only towards #eFuels and advanced biofuels. When revising the CO2 Standards a link to RED can be implemented, e.g. via a Carbon Correction Factor or a Crediting System. That this is possible is currently shown in Switzerland that is implementing such a system. "Nobody has to choose just one technology, on the contrary. Electromobility is a key factor, as is the use of hydrogen and renewable fuels. If we manage to emphasize the different advantages of the technologies in regulatory terms, they will support each other in achieving the net zero target,” our CEO Ralf Diemer recently commented. #makerenewablefuelscount

EU Member States need to take an ambitious approach to implementing the Renewable Energy Directive #REDIII! Until May 2025 the Directive has to be transposed into national law. Where is the journey headed? While the REDIII provides mandatory minimum quotas for the usage of #eFuels, member states can do more than that. The national climate and energy plans NECPs give an indication of each government’s plans. The deadline for the final NECP passed on June 30 – but most countries missed that deadline. Therefore, we had a look at the draft versions. While there are some member states that have communicated ambitious RFNBO and biofuels subquotas in their drafts, there is room for improvement or lack of indication so far. We have three recommendations: 1️⃣ Member States should be more ambitious with increasing their minimum RFNBO target in transport. Our recommendation is 5% in 2030 with an intermediate target in 2028. 2️⃣ The use of multipliers has to be done with equally raised ambition to achieve real green product capacity. 3️⃣ Delays in implementation should be avoided. We need planning and investment security. Ramping up capacity of renewable fuels has to be done now. #thefutureofenergyisnow

A Future Made in Australia. A formulation to the point - used by the Australian Government. And it refers to low carbon liquid fuels (LCLF). Australia's goal is to support the growth of the new LCLF industries to create jobs, boost investment and change the energy consumption towards renewable solutions. LCLFs include advanced biofuels as well as #eFuels. To this end, Australia will establish the $1.7 billion Future Made in Australia Innovation Fund for priority sectors, including to support the development of nascent LCLF production pathways. Australia recognizes in this consultation paper the need to include LCLFs as alternate decarbonisation pathway, complementing electrification. Australia wants to better align demand requirements and production incentives to create the conditions for commercially competitive production of LCLFs at scale. Participation in this Consultation process is possible till July 18 and helps the future approach on LCLFs in Australia. Happy to see this initiative as well as global developments to scale-up eFuel production. #thefutureofenergyisnow https://lnkd.in/dRj7WWnZ

The first Hydrogen Bank auction for RFNBOs attracted 132 projects from 17 countries across Europe – leading to a 15-fold oversubscription of the designated funding budget of 800 million euros. This high level of participation is a clear signal that the sector is willing to deliver and invest in forward-looking technologies. But it also shows that there is great demand for support to finance the decarbonisation of Europe's industry and the transition away from fossil fuels. During our webinar we discussed with leading experts from the European Commission/DG CLIMA and Frontier Economics the results of the auction, what they tell us about the emerging renewable hydrogen-based industry and what lessons we can learn for the next round of the Hydrogen Bank auction, which is expected to be launched at the end of this year. The huge interest from industry also shows that the Hydrogen Bank needs to be further developed and endowed with more budget. Thank you for your participation Javier García Fernández Johanna Schiele Matthias Janssen!
