Human factors, also known as ergonomics, is the study of designing equipment and devices that fit the human body and its cognitive abilities. The key aspects are to understand how humans perceive and perform tasks, measure human performance using things like biomechanics and anthropometry, and consider human limitations and characteristics when devising new designs to build technologies that explore how to enhance the human experience.
Using game-design pedagogies to embed skills in the law or social science curriculum - a 1 day conference held at Staffordshire University on behalf of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). “Gamification in the Higher Education Health Curricula; Fad or the Future?” by Derek Beeston, Associate Professor of Ethical Leadership & Professional Responsibility - Faculty of Health Sciences
This document discusses applying a social justice framework to animal law. It addresses how animals are often viewed as property or "things" without rights rather than sentient beings. The framework challenges this dominant paradigm by recognizing animals as individuals with needs and interests. It discusses how principles of equity, recognition, participation and consultation can be applied to animal issues. The document also notes some challenges to prosecuting cruelty when it is done for profit and examines regulatory issues around animal agriculture.
Graphical slides for presentation at Humanity+ Summit, Harvard University, June 12-13. See full video online to hear the story (approx 10 minutes). Overview: Carbon is abundant, versatile, and the chemical foundation of all living creatures. Moreover, new forms of carbon are speeding advances in materials science, nanotechnology, and computing, with paradigm-busting ramifications. It is even poised to become the first truly global currency as industries transition away from carbon emitting processes to carbon-capturing ones in the expanding effort to stabilize our climate. And that’s just the beginning. Living creatures aren’t only made of carbon: they are versatile and efficient carbon processors. The ease by which life can be programmed to do our bidding opens the door to new, altered carbon forms no longer bounded by the need simply to survive long enough to replicate and pass on genes. The days of natural selection, then, are drawing to a close, to be replaced by an evolution Darwin never saw coming, one directed, for better or worse, by human enterprise, creative expression, or folly.

This document discusses how people physically interact with computers and provides tips for setting up an ergonomic workstation and doing exercises throughout the workday to prevent injuries from prolonged sitting. It recommends positioning equipment in accessible places, spending 5 minutes away from the computer every hour, and provides examples of hand, back, shoulder, head, and neck exercises to do regularly at the desk.
The document discusses the MSI WindPad 100W tablet, including its target demographic of nerds, its simple software and competition from the iPad and Android tablets, and MSI's brand. It also questions whether Windows 7 tablets will succeed or fail.
The document discusses various strategies for using technology in education on a limited budget. It suggests maximizing existing hardware by upgrading RAM and storage, utilizing replacement cycles of local businesses, and implementing cosmetic upgrades to dated equipment. It also proposes making use of students' own technology through projects designed for common platforms. Sharing computers is recommended, as it provides pedagogical advantages like collaborative problem-solving. Planning is key to enable effective sharing of devices and digital tools.
