Here it is, the world's first hybrid fast ferry of this category and size: Italian shipping company Liberty Lines ceremonially launched "Vittorio Morace" in Trapani, Sicily. The ferry is powered by our mtu hybrid propulsion system. The 39.5 meter long ship has a capacity of 251 passengers, reaches a speed of over 30 knots and will significantly reduce the impact of ship operations on the environment. It has been classified as a “Green Plus” ship by the Italian classification society RINA. The battery-electric part of the drive is used for locally emission-free driving in the harbour area and as a booster. CO2 emissions are reduced by the particularly efficient mtu Series 4000 diesel engines which can also run on the renewable diesel (HVO, hydrotreated vegetable oil). Its use can lower the CO2 footprint by up to 90 per cent. Our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Belgium builds the mtu Kinetic PowerPacks: single units with ratings between 150 kVA/120 kW to 3000 kVA/2160 kW offered at 50 Hz and 60 Hz frequencies. They provide dynamic uninterruptible power supply. Multiple units can be combined to provide higher installed ratings. Mounted on a single base frame, the mtu Kinetic PowerPack incorporates an mtu diesel engine, a synchronous machine, an accu kinetic energy module and a clutch mechanism. Rolls-Royce has started, with a consortium of five companies and research institutes, to develop the necessary technologies for a highly efficient first-of-a-kind hydrogen combustion engine to drive combined heat and power (CHP) systems. Under the Phoenix (Performance Hydrogen Engine for Industrial and X) project, funded by the German Government, the consortium aims to generate the same electrical and thermal energy (power density and efficiency) as currently available through natural gas CHP units in the higher power range of up to 2.5 MW. When fuelled by green hydrogen, this next generation stationary energy plant will be able to run in a completely carbon neutral manner. The project is being funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection with a total of almost five million euros. “We are convinced that combustion engines will remain an essential part of the provision of a reliable energy supply during the energy transition,” said Dr. Jörg Stratmann, CEO of Rolls-Royce Power Systems. “We are making them climate-friendly with sustainable fuels. That's why we at Rolls-Royce are investing in the development of next generation hydrogen engines. Our mtu Series 199 has written an unrivalled success story with around 4000 units produced since 2000. Now a more powerful member will become part of the engine family: The future 10-cylinder variant will cover a power range of up to 1100 kW and will also be able to power vehicles weighing 50 to 70 tonnes.   The 6- and 8-cylinder variants are used, for example, in the Boxer 8x8 wheeled vehicle, the tracked vehicles based on the ASCOD platform; the Ajax family vehicles; the next generation of US combat vehicles such as the M10 Booker; and the Borsuk infantry fighting vehicle. With outputs from 260 to 800 kW it is well known in many military land defence programmes and has proven itself in all extreme climatic conditions in more than 15 countries. The logistical uniformity, with identical components within this engine family from the 6-cylinder to the 10-cylinder variants, will help the armed forces to significantly reduce their logistics costs. Thanks to the modular design principle of the mtu Series 199 and its compact dimensions, the 10-cylinder engine can be used not only for new vehicles but also for the repowering of existing vehicles. #governmental #landdefence #mtusolutions

We have signed a strategic co-operation agreement with CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited), a global leader of new energy innovative technology, to launch CATL’s new TENER product line in the European Union (EU) and UK. The partnership will strengthen the ability of both companies to realise large and complex grid-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. The two companies have already successfully delivered several projects in the EU using CATL’s EnerOne product line, with several others already under contract. We have already started to offer TENER products, characterised by their increased safety, long service life and heightened efficiency, as part of its mtu EnergyPack QG solution for large-scale energy storage, primarily for grid operators. Our 16V 4000 M65L mtu engines power Heesen Yachts latest delivery MY ALP. The yacht has left the Netherlands for her maiden voyage to the Mediterranean where she can cruise with a top speed of 23 knots and a range of 3100 nautical miles at cruising speed. The twelve-cylinder Series 4000 P83 has an output of 1680 kW and will be used in a hydraulic fire extinguishing water pump on an offshore platform.
