"On your marks, get set, go!" was the motto of the 8th Friedrichshafen company run in July. 603 colleagues from Power Systems took part. Clearly recognizable by their blue shirts, the team beat last year's registration figures and started as the largest Power Systems team in history on the 5.5 km course. With almost 8,000 starters in total, the event set a new record for participation. With 22 apprentices, our youngsters made it onto the podium of the "Trainee Superstars". In addition, the "Third Largest Team" prize was jointly accepted. Congratulations! Colleagues from all over the world supported the runners at Lake Constance by participating virtually: participants from Augsburg, Magdeburg, Berlin, England, the USA and China also took part and contributed to this success. A great sporting team result! #companyrun #healthcaremanagement #teamevent #globalteam

We have received an order from Battery Park Zeewolde (BPZ) to supply a large-scale battery storage system with an output of 32.6 Megawatts and a storage capacity of 65.2 Megawatt hours on a turnkey basis to Zeewolde in the Netherlands. The mtu EnergyPack QG system is scheduled to go into operation in summer 2025. The contract also includes a ten-year maintenance agreement (Long Term Service Agreement), which offers extensive guarantees for the customer: For example, the system's capacity will be guaranteed throughout the entire term. The battery solution is intended to support the customer in energy trading and in the grid services markets. It also helps to increase the stability of the Dutch electricity grid. "With the batteries, we are going to be supporting the grid in improving security of supply and reducing grid congestion - so we can use our electricity much more intelligently," said Sjoerd Sieburgh Sjoerdsma, Director of Windpark Zeewolde B.V.. "We have found a competent partner for this in Rolls-Royce Power Systems." "Battery energy storage systems are a key contributor in the energy transition," said Andreas Görtz, our President Sustainable Power Solutions. "They are a central component of our strategic business areas - enabling us to sustainably and reliably strengthen energy security worldwide." https://lnkd.in/esU5cT5S #BESS #energystorage #energytransition #mtusolutions

Minister of State Dr. Florian Herrmann, MdL, Head of the Bavarian State Chancellery, recently visited out site in Augsburg and was able to inspect the first mtu hydrogen engine on the test bench. "Internal combustion engines are a key component for a reliable energy supply in the energy transition. With sustainable fuels, we make them climate-friendly. That's why we at Rolls-Royce are also focusing on the development of hydrogen engines for power and heat generation," said our CEO Dr. Jörg Stratmann, who welcomed him on site. Minister of State Dr. Herrmann said on the occasion of the visit to Rolls-Royce: "Rolls-Royce is doing real pioneering work here, which is impressive. The new 100% H2-capable gas engines are a major step towards the energy transition that we need and want. Our goal is to ensure an efficient, green and base-load-capable energy supply for our citizens through the wider use of hydrogen. Bavaria is the No. 1 technology state and a reliable partner for industry. With stable framework conditions and determined support for innovation, we are setting the framework to turn clever ideas into solutions."

Rolls-Royce has received H2 readiness certification from TÜV Süd for its current mtu Series 4000 FNER/FV gas engines. H2-ready means that the components and systems are prepared for future use with hydrogen and can be converted accordingly. The certificate is an independent confirmation by one of the leading international testing and certification service providers of the concept with which Rolls-Royce will provide newly built and retrofitted power plants with the aforementioned engines for operation with a hydrogen admixture of up to 25 per cent by volume and for operation with 100 per cent by volume. "We see hydrogen as one of the key elements of the energy transition. With our strategy of making our engines fit for the use of sustainable fuels, we will make a decisive contribution to its success," explained our CEO Dr. Jörg Stratmann. #hydrogen #energytransition #mtusolutions With Tobias Ostermaier, Andreas Görtz

Here it is, the world's first hybrid fast ferry of this category and size: Italian shipping company Liberty Lines ceremonially launched "Vittorio Morace" in Trapani, Sicily. The ferry is powered by our mtu hybrid propulsion system. The 39.5 meter long ship has a capacity of 251 passengers, reaches a speed of over 30 knots and will significantly reduce the impact of ship operations on the environment. It has been classified as a “Green Plus” ship by the Italian classification society RINA. The battery-electric part of the drive is used for locally emission-free driving in the harbour area and as a booster. CO2 emissions are reduced by the particularly efficient mtu Series 4000 diesel engines which can also run on the renewable diesel (HVO, hydrotreated vegetable oil). Its use can lower the CO2 footprint by up to 90 per cent. Furthermore, the comparatively low overall weight of both the engines and the hybrid drive system contributes to high vessel propulsion efficiency, thereby reducing fuel consumption and emissions. https://lnkd.in/esipHTbA #hybridpropulsion #ferryengine #marineengine #mtusolutions

Our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Belgium builds the mtu Kinetic PowerPacks: single units with ratings between 150 kVA/120 kW to 3000 kVA/2160 kW offered at 50 Hz and 60 Hz frequencies. They provide dynamic uninterruptible power supply. Multiple units can be combined to provide higher installed ratings. Mounted on a single base frame, the mtu Kinetic PowerPack incorporates an mtu diesel engine, a synchronous machine, an accu kinetic energy module and a clutch mechanism. Floor-standing control (COP) and power (POP) panels complete the system. https://bit.ly/3fjTgv8 #mtusolutions #powergeneration #kineticenergy #DUPS

Rolls-Royce has started, with a consortium of five companies and research institutes, to develop the necessary technologies for a highly efficient first-of-a-kind hydrogen combustion engine to drive combined heat and power (CHP) systems. Under the Phoenix (Performance Hydrogen Engine for Industrial and X) project, funded by the German Government, the consortium aims to generate the same electrical and thermal energy (power density and efficiency) as currently available through natural gas CHP units in the higher power range of up to 2.5 MW. When fuelled by green hydrogen, this next generation stationary energy plant will be able to run in a completely carbon neutral manner. The project is being funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection with a total of almost five million euros. “We are convinced that combustion engines will remain an essential part of the provision of a reliable energy supply during the energy transition,” said Dr. Jörg Stratmann, CEO of Rolls-Royce Power Systems. “We are making them climate-friendly with sustainable fuels. That's why we at Rolls-Royce are investing in the development of next generation hydrogen engines. The consortium in the Phoenix project, with its combined expertise, is a guarantee of the success in tackling this major technical challenge.” https://lnkd.in/dt5eh6Qe #hydrogen #energytransition #sustainablefuels #mtusolutions #combustionengine
