Our engineers are currently testing the first mtu 100% hydrogen engines at our Rolls-Royce gas systems plant in Augsburg. Customers could hear the engine sound live at the engine start at our #PGSEurope2024 event.  Tests of the 12-cylinder mtu Series 4000 L64 gas engine have shown very good performance, efficiency and emissions characteristics. The first installation of mtu engines running on 100% hydrogen is planned for early 2025 for the Enerport II lighthouse project in the German inland port of Duisburg. If you did not have the opportunity to attend this year's PowerGen Symposium Europe, here are a few impressions of the event: It was impressive to see how many #customers from all over the world came to Augsburg and exchanged ideas with our sales experts as well as with each other about different markets, customer requirements in different countries, the technical finesse of our energy generation and storage products and existing or upcoming interesting projects. Keynote speaker Holger Lösch from BDI - Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie e.V. emphasized that transformation and new solutions are extremely important in times of climate change: a temperature rise of 3 degrees will be no business paradise. For him, various fuels would make up the #powerecosystem of the future. Keynote speaker Prof. Dr. Clemens van Dinther explained how digital systems are making their contribution to the energy transition. The breakout sessions, in which lively and detailed #discussions were held on various topics from the field of energy generation, met with great customer interest and a lively exchange of ideas. Rolls-Royce is to supply 15 mtu 20V 4000R63L units to Romansys Co., Ltd, a renowned locomotive builder headquartered in Changwon, South Korea. The deal was facilitated by the local mtu-authorized distributor, MEST. The locomotives will be built and delivered to Korail, the sole nationwide railway operator in Daejon, South Korea. The huge dimensions of our Series 8000 marine engine inspired the most readers last quarter, but successful factory acceptance tests with special features on our diesel gensets for emergency power supply were also well received. The top three posts included a portrait of one of our senior service technicians who, together with his team, overhauled three Series 8000 engines on a ferry operated by British shipping company Condor Ferries. Congratulations to Liberty Lines! They ceremonially launched the world's first hybrid fast ferry of this category and size in Trapani, Sicily, powered by our #mtu #hybridpropulsion system. The "Vittorio Morace", built by the Spanish shipyard Astilleros Armon and designed by Incat Crowther, is the world's first IMO High-Speed Craft hybrid fast ferry of this size and has been classified as a “Green Plus” ship by the Italian classification society RINA.  Gennaro Carlo Cotella, CEO of Liberty Lines, says: "We chose mtu hybrid systems because we want to minimise the environmental impact of our new fleet while not compromising on the high speed and range of our vessels. A CHP plant with an mtu gas genset at its heart will in future provide electrical energy and heat at ZF Group's Plant 1 on Lake Constance. A 16V 4000 L64 FNER mtu natural gas genset with an effective engine output of up to 130 kWm/cylinder will be installed - the highest power density in its class thanks to its compact design and small footprint. In this application, the genset delivers an electrical output of 1,999 kilowatts and a usable thermal output of 2,074 kilowatts. Our natural gas genset achieves an efficiency of up to 43.5 %, which means efficient fuel/energy utilization at high temperatures.   The engine comes from the assembly plant in Friedrichshafen and was assembled into a genset at the Augsburg site. The unit will be installed at the customer's premises later this year. “We have received the order for the complete integration and remotorization and are also adapting some of the existing system components,” explains Marco Klimm, Project Manager CHP Solutions at Rolls-Royce. In addition to the CHP unit and generator, the scope of delivery also includes the electrical switchgear, heat exchanger, pumps and piping as well as the exhaust gas purification system with SCR catalytic converter. The Lake Constance-based company is renewing an existing CHP plant that was not previously equipped with mtu gensets. Since the first installation of a Series 4000 gas engine at Stadtwerke Weimar in 2009, over 80 of our gensets with this number of cylinders have now been sold in Germany and most of them are already in operation. #CHP #mtusolutions #gaspower #genset
