Hanwha Defense Australia has signed an approximately $4 billion contract with the Commonwealth for the delivery of 129 #Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs). The program will see all 129 vehicles manufactured in Australia, with vehicle deliveries to begin in 2027 and have the fleet delivered in full by 2028. A series of eight prototype vehicles will also be manufactured in both South Korea and Australia as the program develops. The contract includes the development and delivery of the training system components and support system components through until Final Acceptance in 2029, with an initial support contract in place for the first five years following delivery. “Hanwha Aerospace - Land Systems Business Group is pleased to see the contract for the Redback IFV now in place to deliver this world leading capability,” Mr Jae-il Son, President and CEO of Hanwha Aerospace said. “The order represents a further strengthening of the Hanwha presence in Australia next to the AS9 and AS10 Huntsman vehicles under LAND 8116 for the Australian Defence Force. The ties between Australia and South Korea are growing rapidly and we are excited to be part of that growing relationship.” With a down select of HDA as the preferred partner for the LAND 400 Phase 3 project announced in July 2023, the Commonwealth and HDA have worked together at speed to negotiate Army’s largest acquisition program to date. “Less than 6 months after the preferred partner announcement, HDA and Commonwealth have worked hard to deliver a contract that will see this game changing capability delivered to protect Australian soldier,” Mr Richard Cho, Managing Director of HDA said. “We will be manufacturing all 129 vehicles at the Hanwha Armoured vehicle Centre of Excellence (H-ACE) facility now under construction at Geelong. As various GM automotive divisions first rallied their incredible manufacturing might to produce thousands of vehicles, engines, aircraft, munitions and other defense and government products, GM Defense continues the legacy today and into the future.   Journeying back to the era of World War I, here’s a look at the 1917 GMC Model 16AA WW1 Military Ambulance. 🚑 This legendary vehicle served on the front lines, ferrying wounded Soldiers and vital medical supplies, embodying innovation and valor. GMC’s Model 16, selected as the standard ¾-ton truck by the US Army, saw over 13,000 units deployed for military use, with many repurposed as ambulances in support of the war effort. Telling of the times, the truck's maximum speed was 25 miles per hour and was facilitated by its 30 horsepower engine. Out of the 13,316 Model 16 trucks manufactured, the majority were designated for military purposes. While GMC primarily handled ambulance assembly, the demand quickly outpaced the production capabilities of GM's Pontiac division facility. To address the increased demand, kits were developed, containing all the necessary components for ambulance construction and assembly. Chile Calls for Bids to Acquire New Wheeled Armoured Vehicles Santiago: In a move to boost its military strength, the Chilean Army is calling for bids as part of its effort to acquire 40 new eight-wheel drive, all-terrain armoured infantry transport vehicles. The new platforms are to replace a fleet of 160 six-wheel drive Mowag Piranha armoured vehicles, built locally under license by Cardoen Industries in the 1980s and assigned to infantry units in central Chile. Several companies, including the United States’ General Dynamics Land Systems, Italy’s IVECO, Finland’s Patria, and Turkey’s Otokar and , have expressed interest in the potential contract, worth $111.8 million.
