With the growing number of DITA tools in the marketplace, one would think that it would be easy to justify using one of them to create and publish technical documents. By now, most managers have been exposed to the benefits of creating technical documentation according to some agreed upon set of documentation rules using DITA. However, understanding the benefits of this technical approach and being able to justify the expense of implementing it are two different things. Many technical documentation managers are not able to articulate the long-term advantages of converting product information repositories to DITA in order to build a suitable business case to get such a project approved. This presentation outlines the many cost savings and revenue generation opportunities created by managing product information directly in DITA. This presentation was given at Information Development World on October 2, 2015.
1) Integration Competency Centers (ICCs) aim to address the needs of hybrid IT environments by supporting integration solutions for both in-house and SaaS applications while embracing the self-service paradigm of cloud computing. 2) ICCs can provide a structure for both IT-led and business-led integration initiatives in a hybrid environment. 3) Considerations for implementing a successful ICC for hybrid IT include defining success measures, appointing dedicated resources, formalizing roles, clarifying the development lifecycle, emphasizing change management, and increasing reuse.

The document discusses cloud computing and Microsoft's role in providing cloud services. It defines cloud computing as a network of servers that provide computing power, applications, and data storage. Key benefits of the cloud include lower costs, faster access to resources, global scale, improved productivity, high performance, and reliable data backups. The cloud can be public, accessed online, private within a company, or hybrid with elements of both. Many businesses and organizations now use cloud services from Microsoft and other providers to develop apps, store data, host websites, and more.
Coordinated design involves bringing together project information from different teams into a single cloud-based solution for improved decision making. Key benefits include live reporting, reduced costs and time savings, full asset registration, and managing work crews and asset analysis over the long term. Coordinated design options for IKEA to consider are a manual process run in-house or using a common data environment with a web interface to manage the design process and clash detection.
The construction industry has embraced cloud computing for cost efficiency, flexibility, and scalability. Moving operations to the cloud reduces capital expenditures and ongoing server maintenance costs. It allows construction teams to access files from any location and scale storage as needs change. Cloud computing also improves security with daily backups and disaster recovery in certified data centers.
