Results of EPA/EGLE Study "Targeted and Nontargeted Analysis of PFAS in Fume Suppressant Products at Chrome Plating Facilities"(recorded 7/9/20, 93 min)

EGLE and EPA conducted the study to assist in compliance efforts undertaken by the chrome plating industry in Michigan, where a number of metal finishers have had to invest significant resources to install pre-treatment systems to remove PFOS from their process wastewater, even though they complied with federal requirements to discontinue use of the PFOS-based fume suppressants years prior. Samples of 9 different fume suppressants and effluent from 11 platers in Michigan were collected in July 2019. Title V (Clean Air Act) Renewable Operating Permit Webinar Series Renewable Operating Permits (ROPs) are permits for major sources of air pollutants. These permits are typically a conglomeration of a stationary source's existing permits. Unlike other permits, the ROP must be renewed every five (5) years. The process of getting, renewing, or even changing an ROP can be complicated. This webinar series focuses on facilities in Michigan that either have an issued ROP, are in the process of applying for an initial ROP, or are working with these facilities. EGLE air quality specialists discuss best management practices on a variety of topics, including applications, modifications, reporting, compliance assurance monitoring, and testing all related to ROPs.

Traditional methods of hard armoring and installation of seawalls along inland lake shorelines have reduced shoreline habitat and degraded water quality, however incorporating Best Management Practices can minimize impacts to our inland lakes.
