I have been speaking to d&i Leaders (Diversity and Inclusion Leaders) about how we can recognise and reward #employeenetworks. In this piece, I discuss the importance of employee networks with Jo Faragher (she/her), but we also examine why they are often undervalued. I think that’s mainly because employers can see employee networks as passion projects. This hugely undervalues the work of the network and the people within it, don’t you think⁉   I want to encourage employers to provide network leaders with protected time to fulfil the additional work and ensure that the work takes place during working hours.    I also think that many network leads are looking for visibility. Employers can fulfil this by inviting network leads to present their work, achievements and successes to the senior team and feature their work in internal and external communications.   What do you think? I missed this CIPD report when it came out last year. It states that average absenteeism in the UK increased to 7.8 days per person per year, two days (34%) higher than pre-pandemic rates. In addition to minor illnesses, the main causes appear to be stress, mental ill health and musculoskeletal injuries. Considering that more people have the choice and flexibility to occasionally work from home, and hopefully have better work-life balance, I’m surprised by this result (particularly the first two causes). I wonder what the confounding factors are? Also, as often reported, average absenteeism is 1.8 times higher in the public sector than in other sectors.

Delighted to have been invited as guest speaker at the Eurostar strategic management seminar! 🚄 🚄   How can leaders foster a mindset of high-speed growth for their teams? Living more deeply and fully in the world as it is... Foundations of Coaching with Thirdspace, Thur 18 - Fri 19 July 2024, Online with Andy Rogers and Sue Braithwaite Our lives are complex, mysterious, chaotic and surprising, and whether we face it or not, we have to live as a biological creatures in a physical world in which death cohabits with life, illness with vitality, wounds with healing, loss with love. So the question is not how to live without trouble, because the only way to do that is to deny life itself (and that itself brings no end of difficulty). Instead, we might ask ourselves again and again how to live fully in this world, with all its limitations and all our limitations. And we might look for ways to draw on the many gifts and qualities that come with being human, and not make things more complicated than they are already. Facing our difficulties with both honesty and hopefulness in our own capacity to respond - turning towards our difficulties rather than away from them - is what integral development coaching is intended to help each of us do. Mindset Practice is called Mindset Practice for a reason because although our #growthmindset tools, #psychometrics and #programmes focus on embedding learning, it is putting that learning into practice after a workshop that really means change is transformational! It also means that participants do not have to understand complicated leadership models, strategic approaches or specific techniques to make lasting and impactful change. They just need to understand what a mindset of Growth and Survival means for them and then how to manage that pattern more effectively. Last week I was invited to attend a webinar hosted by Maureen Ideozu, aka Belbin Nigeria. What a fantastic 60 minutes discussing how Belbin can be used to help teams work better. We also heard from a Belbin Accredited practitioner who had been using Belbin with his clients. He used the quote: "Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships." -Michael Jordan And, as a true Resource Investigator, I will be using it in the future! If anyone has any other quotes they use when talking about the importance of collaboration, teamwork and performance, please share!
