Accused Shiv Sharma
MUMBAI: Over two weeks after a young girl was brutally hammered to death in broad daylight by her boyfriend in Vasai, a 26-year-old woman was assaulted from behind by her husband with a sharp object on the Virar railway station footover bridge on Wedesday morning. The accused Shiv Sharma was caught by commuters and handed over to the railway cops.
The victim Brishila Khatri was walking on the FOB around 6.40 am, when Sharma (32) came from behind and assaulted her on the neck and hand in full public view.
She collapsed on the floor and was helped by passersby to be shifted to the Sanjeevani hospital outside the Virar railway station. Vasai Government Railway Police said the accused is believed to have used a sharp blade to assault his wife. The reason behind the assault is under investigation.
On June 18, a 22-year-old girl Aarti Yadav was assaulted with a huge spanner by her boyfriend of six years, Rohit Pal in Vasai (east). She was headed to work, when he came from behind and hit her with the spanner on the head. As she lay bleeding on the road, he mounted more attacks. Pal, who stayed put at the crime scene, was later arrested by the Valiv police. Investigations revealed that Pal had lied about his 'surname' which was given as 'Yadav' and about being an orphan. His parents were traced to a village in UP.
