PM Modi Austria Visit Live Updates: PM Modi lands in Vienna, says, 'Visit to Austria is a special one'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived here on Tuesday from Moscow on a two-day visit to Austria during which the two nations will explore ways to further deepen their bilateral relationship and closer cooperation on the many geopolitical challenges. It is the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Austria in over 40 years, the last being of Indira Gandhi in 1983.Modi will call on the President of the Republic of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen, and hold talks with Chancellor of Austria Karl Nehammer on Wednesday.The Prime Minister and Chancellor will also address business leaders from India and Austria.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed from Moscow, Russia and is travelling to Austria where he will meet President Alexander Van der Bellen and hold talks with Chancellor Karl Nehammer.

"As I said, the major thrust of the discussion was on economic engagement. A significant component of it was also devoted to how the partnership between India and Russia can also give fillip to make in India and other manufacturing partnerships that give fillip to Aatmnirbahrata in India across a whole range of economic areas. A significant element of today's discussion also focused on connectivity corridors. In this regard, the two leaders spoke about the new proposed Eastern Corridor which is called the Chennai-Vladivostok Eastern Corridor... The two leaders also focused on important areas in the economic domain that link with the growth and growth of different sectors in both countries, in particular fertilizer supply from Russia to India, which is directly linked to the production and the farmer's yield in India... The two leaders also spoke about the need to move forward on the India - Eurasian Economic Union trade and Goods Agreement. We have had one round of discussions between the two countries and it is expected that this will be expedited in months ahead. The two leaders have set a new trade target of 100 billion by 2030," he said.

"Our relations are very important for not just our two countries (India and Russia) but for the entire world. In the context of today's global atmosphere, India and Russia partnership becomes all the more important. Both of us believe that continuous efforts should be made for global stability and peace. In the time to come, we will work together towards this," he said.

Russian President Putin conferred PM Narendra Modi with highest civilian award of Russian Federation, Order of St Andrew the Apostle.

"We have welcomed the Prime Minister in Russia. This visit is significant in terms of discussing global matters and regional matters, most of all in terms of reviewing bilateral relationships which are very extended. We have a lot of prospective projects in the pipeline which have been discussed and are being implemented already, be it in oil & gas, defence, or culture. In every sphere, we have a great scope of bilateral engagements... We expect the PM to come in for the BRICS summit also. We are looking forward to continuing the annual exchange of summits, the practice that has been going on for the last 20 years...We are looking forward to a high-level delegation visit from Russia to India," he said.

Holding talks with Russian President Putin, PM Modi said, "The last 5 years were very concerning, challenging for entire world, entire humankind. We had to go through several problems. First, due to Covid and later the era of conflicts and tensions in various parts caused several issues for humankind...Even in such a situation, when the world was facing a food-fuel-fertiliser crisis, due to India-Russia friendship and cooperation I did not let the farmers of my country face a crisis of fertiliser...Our friendship has played a huge role towards this. We are committed to the interest of farmers. Even in the days to come, we would want our cooperation with Russia to further advance in the interest of farmers."

The PM said, "When the world was facing the challenge of fuels, your support helped us fulfil the petrol and diesel requirements of the common man. Not just this, the world should accept that India-Russia agreement regarding fuel played a big role in bringing stability to the international market," says PM Modi in his remarks at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

In his speech to the Indian Diaspora in Moscow, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the strong and enduring friendship between India and Russia. He described Russia as a "trusted friend" which has always been "India's partner in happiness and sorrow".
