Mumbai breathed a sigh of relief as showers stopped a day after heavy rain brought the metropolis to its knees.

The public works department in the national capital received 22 calls regarding waterlogging and around three to four complaints of trees getting uprooted till the afternoon.Spicejet said all departures and arrivals and their consequential flights might be affected due to the bad weather and asked passengers to keep a check on their flight status.

Rains abated in Mumbai on Tuesday, a day after crippling normal life and disrupting the air, rail and road traffic in the city.

Mumbai witnessed overcast skies on Tuesday morning, but the rains took a break even as schools and colleges were closed in view of the IMD's warning of heavy showers.

Local trains, considered as the lifeline of the country's financial capital, also came back on tracks as there was no waterlogging anywhere since early morning.

The meteorological department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in Pune district on July 9, Tuesday following which, the Pune district collector Suhas Diwase announced a holiday for all schools up to 12th grade.

In a statement issued by Diwase on Monday, he stated: "To prevent any untoward incidents and to ensure that the emergency situation does not affect school students, all schools up to the 12th grade in the district will remain closed on Tuesday. However, all principals, teachers, and non-teaching staff are required to be present at the school during office hours to assist with disaster management as per the local administration's orders."

He added that, citizens are also advised to exercise caution, avoid visiting waterfalls, and only go out if necessary.

Mumbai Rain Live: Shinde reviews situation, visits BMC disaster management control room

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday took stock of the heavy rain situation in Mumbai by chairing a meeting at Mantralaya and visiting the control room of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).Some areas in Mumbai received more than 300 mm of rainfall in just six hours ending at 7 AM, causing inundation of roads and low-lying areas.Services of local trains on Central Railway routes were severely affected due to the accumulation of water on tracks, while out-station trains are running behind schedule.At Mantralaya, state minister for Relief and Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Anil Patil was also present.

He blamed officials (there are no Corporators since elections have not been held for the last two years) for the improper cleaning of nullahs. “We had carried out inspection when the nullah cleaning work was ongoing and at the time had raised the issue of the nullahs not being cleaned properly. The sludge that was removed from the drains was left on the roadside and not cleared,” he said raising the issue in the assembly before it was adjourned for the day.

The famous Raigad fort has been closed for tourists in view of heavy rain in the district. Around 500 tourists were stranded on the fort on Sunday evening, when the Raigad police with the help of members of a NGO started the rescue operation.
