Yesterday, Scott Bolton spoke at the inaugural American Clean Power Association (ACP) RECHARGE conference in Portland, Oregon, where he discussed the importance of 8+ hour duration storage, supply chain availability, and the policy environment that is needed for large scale adoption. As electricity grids around the world transition to intermittent renewable energy, building diverse energy storage technologies that ensure reliability and offer distinct characteristics is crucial. Scott emphasized the importance of non-lithium solutions and the mission behind Hydrostor’s DNA, deploying highly-scalable LDES projects globally that repurpose existing workforces and supply chains for a cleaner, safer future. Thanks for an engaging session that was moderated by Kate Howling, P.E. (U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and joined by panelists RJ Johnson (Form Energy), and Mimi Walters (EOS).

We are pleased that New York Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Department of Public Service Commission have approved the Energy Storage Roadmap which includes a long duration energy storage (LDES) carveout for 8-hour storage. The Roadmap estimates that over 4 GW of 8-hour LDES will need to be deployed by 2035 and 6.8 GW by 2050 in New York. “With more renewable generation than any other state on the east coast, deep duration storage is only going to become more critical to keeping the lights on as New York continues to work towards its decarbonization goals. New York has recognized that 8+ hour storage is needed to move the energy transition forward while maintaining the reliability of the grid, and we're confident that other states will follow" said Jordan Cole, Chief Commercial Officer at Hydrostor.
