Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has taken aim at the Coalition’s nuclear plan, saying it simply doesn’t stack up.    “What I know, very clearly, is that the nuclear debate doesn’t stack up economically. That's the prime reason nuclear reactors aren’t appropriate for Australia,” Mr Albanese said.    He listed the Clean Energy Council alongside the Australian Chamber of Commerce, the Business Council of Australia, the Australian Industry Group, the Australian Energy Market Operator and many more organisations whose knowledge and recommendations on nuclear are being ignored by those pursuing that industry.    Speaking from Brisbane yesterday, the Prime Minister pointed to former Prime Minister John Howard’s rejection of nuclear power as well as inaction by the Coalition Government on nuclear policy during its recent nine-year reign because it didn’t stack up economically then, and it doesn’t now.    Renewables already provide almost 40 per cent of our electricity.     There is no reason to chase an industry that doesn’t exist in Australia, isn’t needed in Australia given our abundance of natural resources, and which would bring higher power prices to all Australians.    #cleanenergy #renewableenergy

This NAIDOC Week, we encourage all developers of renewable energy projects to think about and plan how they can partner with First Nations communities to ensure the benefits of the clean energy transition are shared and that local cultures and livelihoods are respected. The First Nations Clean Energy Network (FNCEN) has put together a list of 10 best practice principles to ensure clean energy projects guarantee economic and social benefits, mutual respect, clear communication, cultural and environmental considerations and much more. Together with the FNCEN and KPMG Australia we have developed those principles into an essential handbook, ‘Leading Practice Principles: First Nations and Renewable Energy Projects’. CEC staff members were proud to have been part of the crowd celebrating the flag raising at Federation Square yesterday, to ring in NAIDOC Week 2024. We are honoured to stand in solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, celebrating their rich cultures, histories and contributions. For us at the Clean Energy Council, this is particularly meaningful as First Nations knowledge and respect for the land plays a vital role in our pursuit of sustainable and renewable energy solutions. Last month our Equity, Inclusion and Diversity Working Group held a special session for our members on the importance of Reconciliation Action Plans. A great presentation was given by Reconciliation Australia and resources were shared with members that showed authentically enacting reconciliation can be done in many different ways. If you’re interested in being part of our Equity, Inclusion and Diversity working group, join us here: https://lnkd.in/gz2mjGSX #cleanenergy #renewableenergy #NAIDOC2024

Renewables and agriculture go together like bacon and eggs. Had a blast chairing the Energy Transition, Agriculture and Regional Development session at the #RenewablesInAgricultureConference along with panelists David Shankey, Alastair Smith, Dana Boxall, Melinee Leather and Gayle Lee. Discussion covered assessing community sentiment/social licence, community benefits, community engagement, balancing transparency for community acceptance and privacy in financial contracts, learning from the mistakes of the coal seam gas industry and many others. Congratulations to Karin Stark for a putting together a sell out conference! Excited to continue my involvement as part of the conference committee.

Each year, during the first week in July, Australia celebrates the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. The theme of NAIDOC Week 2024 is ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud’, encapsulating the unapologetic celebration of Indigenous identity, inviting all Australians to listen, learn and engage in meaningful dialogue. NAIDOC Week 2024 is also an opportunity for Australians to reflect on the outcome of last year’s referendum. The Clean Energy Council supported a ‘yes’ vote, and while we were disappointed with the result, there is still a profound opportunity for our industry to conduct the critical work of the energy transition alongside the critical work of reconciliation. Renewable energy projects are and will be housed on the lands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and present amazing opportunities for genuine partnership, as well as creating jobs on Country and providing low-cost power to remote communities. Check out the video to see how Beon Energy Solutions is partnering with local Traditional Owners on its Avonlie Solar Farm, where more than 30 First Nations men and women have worked on the project that, once completed, will generate approximately 500 GWh of renewable energy each year. #cleanenergy #renewableenergy #NAIDOC2024
