Excited to confirm that Ark Energy’s Bowmans Creek Wind Farm, approved by the NSW Independent Planning Commission in February, has also received final approval from the Commonwealth. Bowmans Creek Wind Farm will be located about 10 km east of Muswellbrook, in the NSW Hunter-Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone. We listened to the community to iterate the design, and the project will involve 54 wind turbines with a generation capacity of 335 MW, enough to power about 145,000 households annually. We look forward to this project providing socio-economic benefits to the Hunter region, contributing to NSW’s renewable energy targets and helping to drive down wholesale electricity prices. https://lnkd.in/ggx_E4-G #renewablesNSW #renewableenergy

It has been great to be part of Horizon Educational's 2024 Hydrogen Grand Prix and the H2GP PRO for high school students, where teams design, build and race their own hydrogen-powered RC cars. Ark Energy is a keen supporter of school-based learning for the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers, and education+industry partnerships that help students absorb knowledge by applying it in practical ways. The H2GP Pro engages students in a fun and hands-on challenge that combines science and engineering with important soft skills. Some great insights from our own Daniel Krosch following the team's recent visit to China.
Recently Tim Davies, Sean Cole-Hunter and I travelled to China with to visit various hydrogen equipment manufacturers and operational green ammonia projects. It was great to see the depth of knowledge, experience and innovation there firsthand, like this 15 MW Alkaline stack. Our takeaways from the visit: ➡ Australia will need to adapt to be competitive in manufacturing - Australia faces a step-change to establish globally competitive equipment manufacturing capabilities. China’s supply chain is extensive and its model, with a concentration of component production in a single area, accelerates manufacturing processes, fosters innovation, and drives down costs. In Australia we’ll need to be strategic in our manufacturing efforts and focus on the areas we can actually add value. ➡ Technical uncertainties with HP Alkaline - Despite recent advances there remains technical uncertainties with large-scale Alkaline stacks. Further research is imperative to enhance its adaptability to fluctuating renewable energy loads. Crucial decisions regarding stack design, including choices in anode and cathode materials and design, will influence performance, reliability, and degradation. ➡Focus on compliance, quality, reliability – Focus on these areas, and social responsibility, is a common theme. Most vendors are aware of the requirements when working with Australia and are taking steps to ensure their product is suitable for the Australian market. ➡Manufacturing capacity is available – Many vendors have stepped up their manufacturing capacity, however due to delays in projects reaching financial investment decision there production capacity is available. This is expected to change once incentives and subsidies like the IRA and HPTI are finalised which allows projects to be sanctioned. It will be interesting to see how vendors and technologies continue to evolve over the coming years!

Being a member of this partnership reflects Ark Energy’s commitment to caring for the natural environment and to supporting initiatives that the communities in our project regions care about.
