The survey of 31 members of the Hybrid User Forum found the following:
- Most respondents were public transport operators or local/regional authorities.
- The majority of hybrid fleets were in cities with populations between 100,000-1 million people.
- Respondents reported an average 16% reduction in fuel consumption for hybrids compared to diesel buses. Fuel savings varied depending on route and season.
- Maintenance costs for hybrids were reported to be similar to or slightly higher than diesel buses on average.
- Respondents expected hybrid purchases costs to be up to 26% higher than diesel but fuel savings, emissions reductions, and political support could motivate higher costs. Driver training was

This document analyzes the linkages between different sectors of the Irish economy that contributed to the financial crisis. It discusses 3 key linkages: 1) How rising household credit led to rising debt levels. 2) How private sector debt accumulated and was transferred to the public sector balance sheet. 3) How expectations of continued growth were not met with reality as the economy entered a demand-deficient recession. The document uses charts and data to show trends in household borrowing, debt, asset prices, unemployment and other economic indicators to demonstrate these interlinkages and how Ireland's crisis emerged.
The document discusses graphs and their applications. It defines key graph terms like vertices, edges, directed/undirected graphs, paths, cycles, etc. It then describes algorithms for finding minimum spanning trees, Eulerian cycles, Hamiltonian paths, and approximations for the traveling salesman problem. Examples are provided to illustrate minimum spanning tree and Christofide's algorithms for TSP.

The document discusses techniques of data analysis. It begins by stating the objectives, which are to reinforce understanding of concepts from the main lecture, including concepts of data analysis, some techniques, and tips. It then defines data analysis as approaching data to answer research questions. It categorizes data analysis into narrative, descriptive, statistical/mathematical, and audio-optical. Most research uses the first three categories. Descriptive and statistical methods are popular in sciences. Descriptive statistics describe phenomena in samples to abstract populations, using measures like association, tendency, relationships, trends and dispersion. Examples of statistical techniques include correlation, ANOVA, regression and econometric modeling.

The numerical simulation analyzed the aerodynamic characteristics of a truck carrying a container body with and without a roof fairing. The roof fairing reduced the wake formation and pressure buildup at the front of the container, decreasing aerodynamic drag by up to 23%. The height of the roof fairing was optimized to maximize drag reduction for different container heights. Wind pressure data from the roof fairing was also used for structural analysis of durability under wind loads.
This document discusses challenges in wastewater treatment and sanitation, along with proposed solutions. The challenges include: maintaining high reliability at wastewater treatment plants; unclear responsibilities when contamination occurs; and issues from aging infrastructure. The proposed solutions center around implementing advanced online monitoring systems. These systems can help ensure treatment reliability, rapidly detect contamination sources to assign responsibility, and prevent stoppages through preventative maintenance based on integrated data analysis.

This document discusses proportional relationships through examples and graphs. It begins with examples of distance traveled over time. The examples that produce straight lines through the origin on a graph exhibit proportional relationships, as they maintain a constant ratio between the variables. Constant of proportionality is introduced as the constant ratio in a proportional relationship. Students are tasked with graphing the example tables and identifying features of proportional vs. non-proportional relationships from the graphs. They are also asked to extend one of the proportional graphs in different ways to demonstrate understanding of the constant ratio. Homework is assigned from the textbook.

This document provides information about a bus section meeting to be held in London on May 26, 2011. It discusses the objectives of establishing a Hybrid User Forum to more closely involve public transport operators and authorities in hybrid vehicle research and development projects. The Hybrid User Forum will facilitate workshops and information exchanges between the supply side (vehicle manufacturers and partners) and demand side (public transport operators and authorities). It will focus on practical experience with hybrid buses and trucks, with the goal of helping to improve hybrid vehicle design and meet user needs.
The document summarizes a presentation about a European project to develop hybrid commercial vehicles. It aims to reduce costs and environmental impacts of buses and trucks through hybridization. The project involves 18 partners over 4 years with a budget of 17.7M Euros. It will develop hybrid bus and truck demonstrators with the goals of reducing powertrain costs by 40% and fuel consumption by 5% compared to current hybrids through technologies like improved energy storage, electric machines, and component integration.
The document summarizes the findings of the Fuel & Traction Systems Observatory (FTSO) on electric drive technologies for buses. The FTSO concludes that pure electric technologies are best for mini and midi buses, hybrid technologies are suitable for large buses, and fuel cell technologies may be viable in the future. Hybrid bus adoption is growing in North America and some European cities. While hybrids currently have higher costs, their costs may decrease over time, especially if fuel prices rise or environmental factors are considered in economic analyses. Pure electric buses are currently only feasible for small buses due to battery weight and capacity limitations, though Chinese manufacturers claim to offer longer-range electric buses.
The document summarizes a presentation given by Mike Weston of Transport for London about hybrid buses and other environmental initiatives for London's bus network. It provides an overview of the large London bus network and current fleet. It then discusses trials of diesel hybrid and hydrogen buses, and their improved environmental performance over conventional diesel buses. The presentation addresses barriers and opportunities for deploying future low-emission bus technologies.
The document discusses the HCV Hybrid Commercial Vehicle project. The project aims to develop advanced second generation hybrid electric powertrains for urban buses and delivery vehicles. This will demonstrate cost-reduced and fuel-efficient hybrid technology in real-world operating conditions across multiple European cities. The goals are a 40% cost reduction and 30% fuel consumption reduction compared to current vehicles. The technical approach involves utilizing experience from early hybrid vehicles and developing common hybrid components and communication standards. The project will result in a demonstration passenger bus and distribution truck using the new hybrid technology.

Quality Patents: Patents That Stand the Test of TimeAurora Consulting
Is your patent a vanity piece of paper for your office wall? Or is it a reliable, defendable, assertable, property right? The difference is often quality.
Is your patent simply a transactional cost and a large pile of legal bills for your startup? Or is it a leverageable asset worthy of attracting precious investment dollars, worth its cost in multiples of valuation? The difference is often quality.
Is your patent application only good enough to get through the examination process? Or has it been crafted to stand the tests of time and varied audiences if you later need to assert that document against an infringer, find yourself litigating with it in an Article 3 Court at the hands of a judge and jury, God forbid, end up having to defend its validity at the PTAB, or even needing to use it to block pirated imports at the International Trade Commission? The difference is often quality.
Quality will be our focus for a good chunk of the remainder of this season. What goes into a quality patent, and where possible, how do you get it without breaking the bank?
** Episode Overview **
In this first episode of our quality series, Kristen Hansen and the panel discuss:
⦿ What do we mean when we say patent quality?
⦿ Why is patent quality important?
⦿ How to balance quality and budget
⦿ The importance of searching, continuations, and draftsperson domain expertise
⦿ Very practical tips, tricks, examples, and Kristen’s Musts for drafting quality applications

What criteria were used
in the measuring/testing process?
• 24 hybrid buses have been
operating for 1 year in everyday operation in 3 cities.
• real line operations
• Monitoring the hybrid bus in each route and driving in parallel
with an ICE vehicle of same characteristics doing the same
route twice, changing the drivers.
• London Buses Millbrook Route 159 Cycle.
• Comparation between ICE bus and hybrid bus simulating a
bus route.

Please describe any other experience your organisation has
with hybrid buses (e.g. driver satisfaction, noise level,
passenger satisfaction, public awareness, political support)?

• Noise reduction (6)
• Technical problems (3) – incl. interior noise level
• Driver (very) satisfied (3)
