Joseph Labrecque gives a presentation on Adobe Edge, a new web motion and interaction design tool from Adobe. Adobe Edge allows designers to bring animated content to websites using web standards like HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS3. It addresses the lack of solid tooling for HTML animation and interaction. Adobe Edge borrows concepts from Flash Professional like the stage, actions, and a standardized runtime model, but uses a timeline and keyframing approach more like After Effects. Edge content does not replace what can be done in Flash, but provides new choices for the tooling and technologies used.
Adobe Flash has evolved from a tool for simple vector animations and interactivity to a platform for rich media, games, and applications, but recent developments have diminished its role on the modern web. It started by adding capabilities like video playback and webcam support. However, the rise of mobile devices without Flash support, and the development of open web standards for multimedia, led Flash's prominence to decline. While still used for games, video, and by some creators, its future role is uncertain as HTML5 and native apps become more capable.

The document discusses emerging web animation technologies including Adobe Edge and CSS Shaders. Adobe Edge allows for motion and interaction design using HTML5, CSS and JavaScript, and outputs animations that perform well across devices. The latest Edge preview release includes new features like symbols, clipping and font support. CSS Shaders is a new technology that brings cinematic visual effects to the web by enabling more advanced capabilities in browsers. The document advocates that Adobe wants to help creators by providing animation tools that work across current and future browser standards.
The document discusses the technology used by the author for their media project from AS to A2 levels. In AS, the author used the school's MAC blogs and iMovie software. For A2, the author used Wix blogs for more customization options, iMovie, Adobe Photoshop, and Canon HD video cameras. The author notes the A2 hardware and software allowed for more advanced editing, manipulation, and presentation skills compared to AS.
