Read our new blog: https://lnkd.in/euGJfwNf The 2003 heatwave in Europe caused an estimated 70,000 deaths. There is growing evidence that extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, have an impact on morbidity and mortality around the world. Sarah Hogekamp presents recent data on heatwave-related mortality in Europe and the U.S., as well as data on influenza-related deaths. She also highlights the actuarial relevance of these findings. The findings indicate that adjustments to our behaviour and environment could mitigate excess heat-related mortality in the future. #mortality #lifeinsurance #climatechange

We are delighted to have hosted our 2024 summer interns at Gen Re London and our subsidiary Faraday. They joined us through the UK-based 10,000 Black Interns Programme as part of our global DEI activities. Muinat Carew and Temi Egberongbe have spent time in Faraday. Muinat within the Wordings Team and Temi in the Property Underwriting Team. We really welcomed their energy and enthusiasm, and we wish them all the very best of luck for their future studies and careers. Munira Abdi is still working within the Life/Health Client Accounting Team and enjoying learning about the world of reinsurance. We’d like to thank Muinat, Temi and Munira for their valuable contributions during their time with us. To learn more about the programme you can visit: https://lnkd.in/eDtES_9J

What a great turnout! This year’s Global Clients’ Reinsurance Course in Cologne is once again proving very popular. It’s another one of our training programmes for those who want to learn more about non-life reinsurance. During the 5-day programme, we focus on treaty reinsurance and its special features with presentations, case studies, and group discussions. In addition, the participants also learn about facultative reinsurance, modelling of natural catastrophe risks, risk management, and claims. Another highlight is Gen Re’s unique PRIME simulation exercise, which simulates operations from a primary insurer’s perspective. There are also social highlights, including a guided walking tour of Cologne and dinners at special places. #GCRCCologne

Just in time to enjoy the European Football Championship together, the participants in the course “Certified Underwriting Specialist” met again in Cologne. What better combination than medical underwriting insights during the day and a multinational group cheering on different countries in the evening? Thanks to all Gen Re colleagues who supported the seminar. #medicalunderwriting

Read our new blog: https://lnkd.in/e7f84Eqe When it comes to the hazardous action of turning left, there are many contributing factors. Multiple studies have found significant benefits of #roundabouts versus traditional controlled intersections. This year’s Summer Technical Meeting of the IntAP Reinsurance Claims Association, which was held on 19/20 June, was all about the latest international Casualty topics. We learned about the PFAS legislation and litigation update from the U.S., coverage related to war/terrorism, and autonomous vehicles and liability issues from the UK and Germany, amongst other topics. Well done to Nina Dahm-Loraing, who’s been appointed to the organisation’s Steering Committee! Kevin LaCroix , Björn Griesbach , Dr. Mathias N. We were treated to a fascinating talk by David L. Eckles, a visiting professor from the University of Georgia, at Gen Re's Lecture Day in Cologne yesterday. His presentation, entitled "The History and Development of Business Interruption Insurance", captured the audience. We also invited students interested in a career with an international reinsurer, who loved meeting Gen Re employees and clients. The event ended with everyone enjoying Kölsch and snacks on the rooftop. #GenReLectureDay #businessinterruptioninsurance #insurancecareers

While cyber insurance is undergoing a process of adaptation to balance policyholder expectations with the overall risk of a serious act of cyber warfare, property insurers have generally remained silent on the risks that cyber war could pose to their portfolios. Caroline Sijbrandij, Head of Wordings, International P&C Management London, talks about why now is the time for property insurers to consider the risk of cyber warfare and the potential claims that could result. https://lnkd.in/ex929Cum #cyberrisk #cyberwar #propertyinsurance
