How can we strengthen our resilience in a world of evolving risks? Insurance Awareness Day serves as an important reminder that when risks turn into reality, it's the assurance of being protected that helps us rebuild, renew and move forward. This is why, in an age where risk never stands still, our mission prevails: to make the world more resilient.

We recently participated in the World Biodiversity Forum #WBF2024 in Davos with the five awarded teams of a research grant from our Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (BES) Scenarios Modelling Initiative. Special thanks to the teams from the University of Zurich, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam), University of Belize Environmental Research Institute, Instituto Internacional para Sustentabilidade (IIS), and ETH Zürich for presenting their initial findings. In the opening panel of the WBF, the discussion focused on examples from various sectors and how different actions can support biodiversity, such as how insurance supports risk identification and helps corporates better understand potential exposures. The panelists included Oliver Schelske, Alice Ruhweza, Josef Settele, Susanne Conrad, Walter Jetz, and Jeannine Cavender-Bares, moderated by Claudia Keller. In the public session, we concluded that perspective matters. Nature can have a seat at the table only through us. Stakeholders are affected differently by nature loss, as well as by the policy measures to address it. The WBF theme "From Science to Action" underscores the importance of turning scientific insights into impactful actions. We are committed to continuing these vital conversations that advance resilience! Thank you to our fellow enabling partners: AXA Research Fund, WWF’s Greening Financial Regulation Initiative, as well as EY as the project office to Swiss Re, for making this possible. Also many thanks to the WBF for inviting us and for supporting our session. Learn more about the five research teams here: https://lnkd.in/dgCGVSaf
