Private aviation operator Desert Jet has partnered with Titan Aviation Fuels to incorporate sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) into its operations. The company aims to reduce its environmental impact while still providing charter services for its clients. ✈️ World Energy, LLC will produce the SAF, while TITAN Aviation Fuels will supply it to Desert Jet’s aircraft. According to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), flights operated with 100% SAF can have up to 94% less emissions than traditional jet fuel. ✈️ SAF is an effective climate solution since it can be used in existing aircraft without additional modifications. The Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) has confirmed that SAF meets the same safety and performance standards as traditional fuel. ✈️ Desert Jet CEO Jared Fox said that SAF can provide its clients “a renewable alternative fuel source for their aircraft through our Desert Jet Center FBO.” Titan Aviation Fuels’ Executive Vice President, Mike Allen, highlighted his excitement to supply SAF. ✈️ Desert Jet is adopting SAF amid increasing scrutiny over the environmental impact of private jets. The company is based at Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport (TRM), approximately 23 miles (37 kilometers) from Palm Springs. ✈️ This announcement came shortly before Coachella, which occurs from April 12-14 and April 19-21. Coachella is a popular time for private jets, with festival attendees often paying thousands to avoid sitting in traffic. #coachella #musictourism #privatejet #charterjet #charterflights #sustainability #palmsprings #saf #sustainableaviationfuel #fbo #privateaviation

Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) producer Firefly Green Fuels will construct the world’s first refinery that converts human waste into jet fuel. Firefly will establish the facility in Essex and expects to start supplying SAF in 2028. ✈️ The refinery in Harwich, a town approximately 86 miles (138 kilometers) from London, will turn biosolids from Anglian Water Services into SAF. Biosolids are organic materials that develop from treating sewage in a wastewater treatment facility. ✈️ Although SAF derived from sustainable sources can significantly reduce emissions, it is much more expensive than traditional jet fuel. Less than 0.5% of airlines’ current fuel consumption currently involves SAF. ✈️ Wizz Air has ordered up to 525,000 tons of Firefly’s SAF for its operations over the next 15 years. The UK subsidiary of the European low-cost carrier plans to have SAF comprise 10% of its operations by 2030. ✈️ Firefly COO Paul Hilditch said the UK has “enough biosolids [to produce] more than 200,000 tonnes of SAF” and that such facilities can “satisfy about half of the mandated SAF demand in 2030.” The company’s CEO, James Hygate, highlighted how turning sewage into fuel is a “cool” process. ✈️ Firefly’s next step is receiving approval by the Civil Aviation Authority for its SAF to be used in aircraft. The UK government requires airlines to have at least 10% of their fuel come from sustainable feedstocks by 2030. #sustainableaviationfuel #saf #biofuels #uk #unitedkingdom #firefly #wizzair #climatetech #sustainability #aviation

China’s low-altitude economy is expected to reach one trillion yuan ($138.3 billion) by 2026, according to a report by CCID Consulting Co. This estimate is a major increase from 506 billion yuan ($70 billion) in 2023. ✈️ China defines the low-altitude economy as anything involving aerial vehicles operating below 1,000 meters (3,281 feet). It includes electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and drones. ✈️ The low-altitude economy is driven by aerospace companies investing in drones and advanced air mobility (AAM). Major players in this space include AutoFlight, XPENG AEROHT, and EHang (NASDAQ: EH). ✈️ China’s eVTOL industry recorded 980 million yuan ($135 million) in revenue in 2023, a 77.3% increase from 2022. The sector is expected to reach 9.5 billion yuan ($1.3 billion) in 2026 as more products are certified by CAAC - Civil Aviation Administration of China. ✈️ China’s civilian drone sector saw 117.4 billion yuan ($16.2 billion) in revenue in 2023, a 32% increase from 2022. Drones are becoming more common in various sectors, including agriculture and emergency services. ✈️ Several cities, including Shenzhen and Guangzhou, have introduced incentives to develop their low-altitude economies. On the national level, China plans to integrate general aviation into its citizen’s daily lives by 2030. #china #lowaltitudeeconomy #drones #evtol #advancedairmobility #economics #chinaeconomy

Electrofuel (eFuel) producer Infinium opened the world’s first commercial-scale eFuel facility in Texas last month. The Bill Gates-backed startup provides low-carbon eFuels that can help decarbonize aviation and other hard-to-abate industries. ✈️ Infinium’s eFuels are synthetic fuels made from captured carbon dioxide and green hydrogen obtained from renewable power. They can be used as a drop-in fuel to power heavy transport instead of fuels created from petroleum products. ✈️ The project, known as Project Pathfinder, has this facility in Corpus Christi as a key component. Project Pathfinder incorporates Infinium’s fuel production technology with a patented scientific process to effectively produce and distribute eFuels. ✈️ Project Pathfinder also serves as Infinium’s eFuels Center of Excellence, a research center providing insights to guide future projects. The company has over 12 additional projects under development across four continents. ✈️ Infinium CEO Robert Schuetzle said the facility gives the company “end-to-end control of the eFuels production process [that] gives us a constant feedback loop” for future projects. Infinium’s eFuels for aviation are known as eSAF (sustainable aviation fuel). ✈️ One of Infinium’s customers is American Airlines, who agreed to purchase an unspecified amount of eSAF in November 2023. Breakthrough Energy Catalyst has also invested $75 million into Project Roadrunner: Infinium’s second facility slated to open in 2026. #climatetech #efuels #infinium #texas #corpuschristi #sustainableaviation #americanairlines #billgates #saf #sustainability
