EFFECT OF OXYGEN ON THE FORMATION OF SYNGAS CONTAMINANTS DURING THERMOCHEMICAL CONVERSION OF BIOMASS
-
The effect of oxygen on the formation of syngas contaminants during thermochemical conversion of biomass has been studied using a pilot thermochemical plant that employs an integration of slow pyrolysis and steam reforming processes. It is proposed that the thermal oxidation of hydrocarbon gases, during the thermochemical process is a primary chemical mechanism for the formation of high molecular weight oxygenated hydrocarbons and polymeric materials, which are commonly referred to as tars.

This project focused on the demonstration of an innovative technology, referred to as the Sunexus CO2 Solar Reformer, which utilizes waste CO2 as a feedstock for the efficient and economical production of synthetic diesel fuel using solar thermal energy as the primary energy input. This project was funded by DOE/NETL.
