Reaching millions of factory workers across six different countries, our helplines provide a confidential channel for workers to voice their workplace grievances and seek guidance for resolutions. The Amader Kotha Helpline has been launched in more than 1,500 factories in Bangladesh and has assisted more than 1.5 million workers. We are now enhancing our Amader Kotha helpline service through providing new e-learning modules for factory management as well as two new worker training videos, aimed to enhance the onboarding experience for workers, and to better support brands and factories in the coordination process. Erin Lyon represented LRQA at the recent AIM-Progress member meeting in Chicago - a great opportunity to share our work in Grievance Mechanisms and to engage with the amazing team at AIM-Progress and all the participants. #HumanRights #AIMProgress2024
🌍 Another productive AIM-Progress member meeting in Chicago wrapped up on Friday as we focused our second day on collective grievance and joint remedy. Key discussion points: 🌟 The grievance mechanism landscape is evolving rapidly, in line with legal expectations and #sustainability standards like the UNGPs. Businesses need to evaluate carefully what level of mechanisms to invest in and whether to work independently or collectively. Whatever the route, we need to build trust, understand scope, identify the right partners, establish accountability, clarify whether mechanisms serve the purpose of remediation and bring data and learning from grievance mechanisms into the due diligence cycle. With thanks to contributors Erin Lyon of LRQA, Kristian Moeller of appellando GmbH and Phyllis Kong from Ferrero. 🛠️ Survivor-led remediation and responses to #LabourExploitation grounded in partnerships with the non-profit sector could benefit businesses' approaches. Our speakers Allie Gardner from United Way and Alicia Ley from Survivor Alliance brought their considerable experience of achieving survivor justice and long-term empowerment to a thought-provoking session about bringing rightsholders front and centre in grievance and remedy. 🤝 Finally, joint remediation will increasingly be needed to be efficient and to achieve the maximum impact. Businesses often need to find ways to build trust with one another and work in a pre-competitive mindset if they are to tackle systemic issues for affected workers and communities. Our member testimonies on when and how to drive for collaboration in remediating significant human rights cases brought much discussion and reflection. The day concluded with a wrap-up session, reflecting on member insights and big themes for the next decade.
