Golden Day: Shatrughan Sinha and Poonam Sinha's love story is a page out of Bollywood script
The golden era of Bollywood is replete with tales of legendary romances that have stood the test of time. Among these, the love story of Shatrughan Sinha and Poonam Sinha shines brightly, a testament to enduring love and commitment. Their journey, filled with drama, passion, and resilience, reads like a script straight out of a classic romantic film.

Shatrughan Sinha, known for his distinctive voice and intense screen presence, met Poonam Chandiramani in the late 1960s. Their first meeting, as narrated by the actor himself, was nothing short of serendipitous.
The Bollywood-style proposal
During a train journey, Shatrughan proposed to Poonam in a manner befitting a Bollywood script. He quoted a famous dialogue from the film ‘Pakeezah,’ writing "apne paon zameen par mat rakhiye" on a piece of paper. This charming and dramatic gesture won Poonam's heart, marking the beginning of their relationship.
The obstacles
However, like any epic love story, their relationship faced numerous challenges. The most notable of these was Shatrughan's rumoured affair with actress Reena Roy. During the height of his career, Shatrughan's close association with Reena Roy became the talk of the town, casting a shadow over his relationship with Poonam. It was heavily publicized by the media and brought Sinha’s relationship to a precarious brink. Yet, true love prevailed. Shatrughan and Reena eventually parted ways, allowing him to return to Poonam, reaffirming their bond.

Further, Poonam's journey to becoming Mrs. Sinha was not without its hurdles. Her mother initially disapproved of Shatrughan, largely due to the scars on his face and the negative characters he often portrayed in films. Her skepticism was compounded by Shatrughan’s late arrival at his own wedding—a full three hours late, an episode that could have turned catastrophic but eventually became another chapter in their dramatic love story.
Despite these challenges, Poonam stood by Shatrughan, showcasing the strength and resilience that would define their marriage.
A happy family
Their union was blessed with three children—Sonakshi, Luv, and Kush. Sonakshi, now a successful actress, often speaks of her parents' strong bond and the values of resilience and commitment they instilled in her and her brothers. She reportedly now herself is going to tie the knot of holy matrimony with Zaheer Iqbal on June 23.
