Dumka: A day after former chief minister (CM) Champai Soren stepped down as the CM, Sita Soren alleged that JMM was run in accordance with a parallel Constitution.
Sita, who happens to be the sister-in-law of Hemant Soren, said Champai was branded as the “tiger of Kolhan” but was silenced by the JMM leadership for its lust for power.
“It is as if JMM has a parallel Constitution under which the party leadership may let anyone occupy the chief minister’s seat anytime and evict him,” she added.
The three-time JMM MLA from Jama, Sita, had deserted the party and joined BJP ahead of this year’s Lok Sabha polls after accusing her brother-in-law Hemant and the party of ignoring and sidelining her. She contested from Dumka constituency on a BJP ticket, but lost to JMM’s Nalin Soren.
Seconding her views, suspended MLA from Borio, Lobin Hembrom, criticised the political development within the party. “The way Hemant Soren came back to claim the CM’s post for yet another term reflects that JMM is not an exception to nepotism prevailing in other parties,” he said.
Lobin was recently suspended from the party for defying party diktat and unsuccessfully contesting Lok Sabha polls from Rajmahal as an independent candidate.
Praising Champai for his governance during his brief five-month tenure, Lobin said the assembly elections in the state were scheduled in the next few months. Hemant should have had the patience to allow a senior party leader like Champai to continue as the CM for the rest of the tenure of the current assembly.
“The decision to replace Champai is an injustice towards a senior party leader who has done a lot for the interest of the govt and the state when political crisis had gripped following Hemant’s arrest,” he said.
