Good news: our Italian team signed an agreement with CNA, an Italian association that represents the interests of small and medium-sized enterprises and artisans. Alfen and CNA will develop a professional training program for customers and installers to provide comprehensive education on EV charging stations, including installation and maintenance procedures. Together, we will develop and teach these skills to the entrepreneurs associated with CNA Rome and the students of a prominent Italian institution dedicated to education and training, called the CNOS-FAP Institute. As part of the partnership, #Alfen will provide the training institution in the Lazio region with some practical material for use during the training activities. Another project update from Ostend, Belgium, where we’ve made big steps installing a 24MW 2-hour battery system for energy multinational Centrica Business Solutions. The site will play a crucial role in increasing overall energy flexibility in the country, where the battery storage market is growing quickly as Belgium prioritises green energy to secure its long-term energy supply. When completed, the battery, situated on land at Ostend Basic Chemicals, will have the capacity to store energy and power 48,000 homes for 2 hours, enabling the grid to balance the peaks and troughs of renewable energy generation. After installing the components, we will create all electrical connections. Soon after, the plant will be energised and further commissioning and operational testing will take place. Kier Construction, a leading provider of infrastructure services, construction and property developments, is using mobile batteries developed by Alfen to reduce carbon emissions. At a 54-acre construction site in Yorkshire, Northern England, the combination of clean mobile storage and diesel generators is saving its customer over 14,000 litres of fuel and 47 tonnes of carbon every month! A wonderful example of how our compact, plug-and-play battery units are helping our customers achieve cleaner construction!

To enhance electrifying passenger bus fleets in the Walloon region on the road to a fossil fuel-free future, Belgian public transport company TEC is adding 50 new sites to charge e-buses. 🚌⚡ After a power boost at the so-called pantograph, which is a mechanical arm that connects to overhead charging infrastructure, the bus driver can take its passengers to their next location, reducing emissions, improving the air quality, decreasing noise pollution and enhancing public health and urban living conditions. To supply the electricity that’s needed to charge the e-buses, TEC needs medium voltage walk-in substations for about 50 new charging sites. Alfen is proud to have created the winning design in a public tender for the 50 sites – that will all require 1 or more substations for the desired grid capacity. “Our smart and compact engineered design for this public tender project stood out between the other designs”, said Yves Vercammen, Country Manager for Alfen Belgium, after signing the double-digit million-euro contract with TEC. “Alfen is well known for designing complex and tailored-made substations like these. And with this turnkey project including all the electric installations and the civil works, we’re proving that Alfen is much more than a supplier of concrete substations. Yesterday, we visited our trusted battery supplier Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) to congratulate them on releasing their new TENER product. TENER is a high-end containerised battery solution for the high-end market, with the battery modules and cells especially made for energy storage applications. “The TENER product represents a leap forward in battery technology,” said our CEO Marco Roeleveld in his speech celebrating the occasion in CATL’s booth. “It offers the best performance available, with the option of 0% capacity loss in the first 5 years and a capacity of 6.25 MWh, the highest available in a 20-foot container. Ultimately, it reduces balance of plant costs and lowers the amount of land required.” This meaningful innovation, together with our expertise, strengthens our position to lead the transition to a clean, reliable and smart energy system. We recognise how important strategic partnerships are to achieving this vision, and our collaboration with CATL has been instrumental in driving these forward objectives.
