[NEWS] Electric boiler, solar power plant and smart energy production ERP and reporting system to enhance Mirka’s climate goals 🌍 Adven and Mirka have agreed on a project at Mirka’s factory in Jeppo (Jepua), Finland, which will start in the fall of 2023. The project focuses on the energy transition of the reserve energy plant, replacing fossil liquid gas with electricity. During the project, Adven will implement a 10 MW electric boiler. In addition to supplying the electric boiler, Adven is also building a 2.5 MWp ground-mounted solar power plant next to the factory. Once completed, the new boiler will reduce carbon dioxide emissions from energy production by approximately 5,500 tonnes per year. Adven will also develop an intelligent ERP and reporting system for energy production. The system produces refined consumption data, from which Mirka can see the exact energy consumption and environmental impact of each of its production lines and departments in real time. The system also monitors hourly electricity prices and participates in Finland’s reserve and regulation electricity market. Tens of megawatts on roofs across country... ČEZ ESCO and CTP have launched a #strategic cooperation in the field #renewable #energy. CTP intends to equip the roofs of selected #parks with photovoltaic #power plants in the coming years. The first joint #photovoltaic system, with an output of 2 MW, has already been built in CTPark #Prague East in Nupaky near Prague, on the roofs of #warehouses where the #logistics company Raben is located. A test run of this rooftop PV system is currently underway. New power plants are also being built at CTParks in Chrášt'any near Prague, Hradec Králové, Brno, Ostrava and Cerhovice near Hořovice. "The #construction of photovoltaic power plants is an integral part of the long-term and comprehensive #sustainability #initiative of our CTParks, which we #design as energy independent. We are constantly looking for and then applying new and more efficient #solutions that will contribute to higher #quality and lower energy #consumption in our #buildings. We do this in line with our long-term solar plan, which aims to build a cumulative installed capacity of 250 to 300 MWp by 2030 in the #Czech Republic alone." In a year, this photovoltaic system saves 964 tonnes of #CO2 #emissions. The #electricity produced from the PV will be consumed locally within the CTP site. The warehouses on which the PV plant is located are used by the #multinational logistics company Raben, which itself has very ambitious #climate targets. "Photovoltaics can help Czech industry not only to reduce energy bills, but also to meet climate commitments, which in the case of CTP are extremely ambitious. Voltfang, Europe’s leading developer and manufacturer of high-performance green energy storage systems for companies and industry, has published a new report on “Resilient Europe through Green Battery Storage.” With the report, Voltfang proves that sustainability is not only an ethical imperative but a strategic necessity for companies and the economy. In 2023, Voltfang saved almost 200 tonnes of CO2 equivalent and more than 270 tonnes of critical raw materials through its production of sustainable storage solutions from second-life electric car batteries. According to various calculations by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, approximately 100 GWh of electrical storage capacity will be needed in Germany by 2030 and around 180 GWh by 2045. Globally, the demand for energy storage will increase to 1 TWh by 2030, corresponding to a value of 250 billion euros in Europe alone. Voltfang is planning to scale up its production to 900 MWh by 2030. “Currently, we are heavily dependent on China for battery materials,” said David Oudsandji, co-founder and Managing Director of Voltfang. “Establishing European production is therefore an essential component of Europe’s strategic competitiveness. We must establish and maintain a complete value chain in Germany. This should include the extraction, production, and recycling of materials. “By reusing and recycling, we not only save production-related CO2 emissions but also reduce our dependence on third countries. Vantaan Energia Oy, a joint energy company owned by the cities of Vantaa and Helsinki, is planning to build the world's largest seasonal heat storage system. The 90 GWh thermal energy storage facility will be constructed in underground caverns in Vantaa, near Helsinki, and is expected to be completed by 2028. The underground caverns, with a total volume of 1.1 million cubic metres, will be filled with hot water that can reach temperatures of up to 140°C. This stored heat will be used for district heating whenever needed, aligning with Finland's extensive underground district heating networks. The project, called "Varanto", aims to store heat from renewable electricity and other sources, with two 60 MW electric boilers being built to produce heat when electricity is abundant and cheap.
