Ion Storage Systems (ION) has recently announced that they have secured $20 million from the US Department of Energy’s ARPA-E program as part of a three-year, $40 million partnership with Saint-Gobain and KLA. This collaboration will accelerate the commercialization of ION’s high-performing, anodeless solid-state batteries (SSBs). With the ARPA-E SCALEUP program contributing $20 million, matched by $20 million in private funds, this initiative aims to revolutionize the production of safe, high-energy batteries for EVs. ION's innovative ceramic membrane manufacturing process promises high throughput, low cost, and low emissions. Rho Motion Live: Asia | BESS Market: A solution for every application?     BESS, often seen as the ‘younger sibling’ of the EV market, has in fact been the fastest growing battery market in recent times. Last week, AM Batteries attended the Department of Energy’s Vehicle Technologies Office (VTO) Annual Merit Review. The Department of Energy reviews funded projects over the year by the VTO and is reviewed for their merit. During the review, our team heard insightful discussions from the VTO and the continued effort from the Department of Energy in battery investment, citing over $120B battery investments made to date. The announced battery factories in the US can supply up to 10M EVs per year and employ over 80k people (when you consider the whole supply chain!). 🤝 Panasonic Energy Co., Ltd., a Panasonic Group Company, has entered into an agreement with Sila Nanotechnologies Inc., to purchase next-generation nano-composite silicon anode material for EV lithium-ion batteries. 🔆The high-performance Si material, Titan SiliconTM, supplied by Sila Nanotechnologies Inc., is designed to outperform conventional silicon by offering higher capacity and suppressing expansion during charging, addressing a longstanding challenge of the material. 🔆This partnership is a strategic move by Panasonic Energy to enhance its battery performance by incorporating a higher proportion of silicon in the anode material, thereby improving energy density, EV performance, increasing vehicle range, and reducing charging times.
