A transformation is planned for our glass making facility in Alloa, UK. A series of upgrades will include gas-oxy combustion furnace tech, more renewable energy and more recycled glass. As the innovations come online, we expect a significant reduction in emissions – creating another contribution toward our goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 25% by 2030. Alloa has been making glass for nearly three centuries. It’s an ideal model of how we approach our long-term sustainability strategy: transforming heritage sites into state-of-the-art glass making facilities for the 21st century through innovative, scalable glass making technology. Today, the state of Ohio announced the creation of the Northwest Ohio Glass Innovation Hub - the first of its kind. As long-time first-movers in glass innovation, we're confident this collaboration will accelerate innovation in the glass industry and continue to position Northwest Ohio at the forefront of glass innovation. Charge!!! 📢 O-I and GridBeyond are collaborating on a groundbreaking battery storage solution at our Alloa, UK, facility. The innovative 8MW battery system and supporting energy management system (EMS) leverages artificial intelligence to significantly enhance energy efficiency, resiliency and sustainability by: 🔋 stabilizing the local electricity grid during peak periods 🔋 increasing O-I's resilience against outages (brownouts) 🔋 improving the grid’s efficiency and sustainability It allows charging during times of high renewable energy availability and discharging energy to the site at peak hours of demand. With this approach, O-I is projected to conserve up to 240 tons of CO2 emissions annually at the Alloa facility once the project is operational . 💡 Have you heard of the French word 'estampe'? It means 'engraving' - and now, O-I Glass is making an impression with its new bottle ESTAMPE- a groundbreaking, lightweight glass wine bottle. Validated by The Carbon Trust, a UK-based consultancy that lends credibility to net zero efforts by supporting market transformation initiatives, the ESTAMPE bottle is now available on the French market. It is characterised by 3️⃣ main features: 1️⃣ Weighing just 390g, it sets a new standard for wine bottles in France. 2️⃣ Made from 80% recycled material, the bottle is well above the European average of 50%. 3️⃣ The ESTAMPE bottle's production reduces carbon emissions by approximately 25%, compared to traditional 500g wine bottles. Enabled by digital-printing technology, O-I : EXPRESSIONS brought this hand-painted art by Ceci New York to life on this special edition Aquarius.
