First project announcement 🎉 I am working with the incredible team at Matereal to help commercialise their bio-based non-isocyanate alternatives to polyurethane. While based in Denver, Matereal is targeting the fashion industry in Europe to test and deploy its first products - coatings and adhesives - for textiles in the fashion industry. Looking forward to our summer roadshow with incredible CEO Jacqueline Ros Amable! Polyurethane (PU) is present in all the products we regularly use: cars, furniture, packaging, you name it! Matereal's tech can replace PU across all applications and maintain the same properties, without toxic petrochemicals - at scale. A very exciting decarbonisation solution from a VC-backed startup 🌱 Picture: Jackie @ HackSummit 2024

⏳ Throwback Thursday #TBT EP 33 - Hack Summit - 13th-14th June 2024 📍Lausanne, Switzerland 🌍🚀 Third time's a charm for FlexSea at Hack Summit in Lausanne - the yearly meeting of some of the brightest minds, showing what their companies are doing to make a better planet for us all! This year saw FlexSea send one and a half Italians to demonstrate the huge leaps and bounds we have made in the last twelve months! ⚽🏆 The attack formation was comprised of our talisman and CEO, Carlo Fedeli, and his trusty midfielder, Enrico Green. With the Euro’s in full swing, the pair were looking to grasp any remaining glory for the Azzurri, by seeking out new projects, partnerships and investors! 🎤🥅 There was a very strong first half performance, with some great traction assists from Enrico followed by a thundering wonder goal during Carlo’s 30-second pitch on the HackSummit main stage! 💪⚡️ The work rate remained high throughout the following hours and into the next day, having key conversations with investors and forming the basis to several new projects (watch this space!), leading to a comfortable win for the FlexSea side. 🙏 🌱 We would like to thank the officials (Arman Anatürk, Laura Hodgkiss and the rest of the Hack team) for putting on such a brilliant event, and for allowing us to pitch our revolutionary material from our very own booth. ⚽️🏆 See you in the finals! #HackSummit #FlexSea #climatetech #innovation #sustainability #Euros2024 #forzaFlexSea #plastics #product #processing #packaging #manufacturing #circular #technology #seaweed #biomaterials #bioplastics #compostable

Finally back from nearly a month of travel and ready to share! First up was Hack Summit in Lausanne, Switzerland - an incredible event, I highly recommend it! Perhaps the least conference-feeling conference I've attended - everyone was so eager to collaborate and meet, and it was so great to see/meet so many of you IRL. The beautiful lakeside setting didn't hurt, either. I'll definitely be back next year! Here are some thoughts from a great 2+ days: TLDR: 1. International collaboration is crucial – climate has no borders, and knowledge sharing, partnerships, and expanding solutions to new geographies not only amplifies impact but also spurs further innovation. 2. Cross vertical collaboration is key to unlocking synergies that enable climate solutions to scale 3. Every industry is a climate industry – we need experience in each and every sector to develop new ways of working 4. Solutions such as plant-based meat and electric cars are wonderful, but not enough alone to solve an intensely interdependent problem; more focus is needed on intermediary and enabler solutions, particularly those that contribute to scope 3 emissions for large impact processes. 5. People working themselves dry isn’t sustainable- we can’t solve a sustainability problem with an unsustainable solution 6. Regeneration isn’t just for agriculture. Every industry has a cost, and every company a responsibility to ask how it’s giving back what it takes. 7. If you don’t like something, don’t criticize it - instead, focus on DESIGN to create what you want to see in the world.

The #HackSummit conference, hosted by the #FOODHACK community earlier last month in Lausanne, focused on agri-food and climate technologies. This global network of activists and ambassadors, primarily young volunteers, passionately promotes sustainability worldwide, transformed into a shaping force of the industry. The conference stands out for its unique blend of business-casual atmosphere bringing together investors, startups, corporates and activists representing the international agri-food tech scene. I recently had the incredible opportunity to attend and compete in the Food Tech World Cup Finals during HackSummit in Lausanne, Switzerland, this past June 2024! 🌍🏆 Meeting so many passionate and purpose-driven individuals was truly inspiring, and it was such a privilege to showcase Elevate Foods' innovative solution to enhance farm-gate food processing! Thanks to our expanding network of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and dedicated farm-gate processors, we’re bringing fresher, tastier, and more sustainable fruits, vegetables & spices, processed at the farm to the market. I’m immensely grateful for the support from our fantastic investors and the broader ecosystem, including Wavemaker Impact and Steve Melhuish who was cheering us in person, and Emilie Dellecker, Laura Hodgkiss, Michal Klar, Sonalie Figueiras and several others who made the event what it was for us! Connecting with other amazing startups from around the world as well as flagbearers of the global agriculture and food space like ADM, Nestlé, Innovaud, Givaudan was definitely a highlight of the summit. Huge shoutout to the others competing in the final: Gavan - Itai Cohen Typcal - Paulo Ibri Day 8 - Daniel Rejzner NAT4Bio - Joaquín Fisch Bioeutectics - Rafael Serrano Bon Vivant - Stéphane Mac Millan Foreverland Food - Riccardo Bottiroli Legendary Foods (Africa) - Shobhita Soor Each of their innovations was fantastic, and worth learning more about. Together, we’re pushing towards a more sustainable and impactful future in agriculture and food. #FoodTech #HackSummit2024 #Sustainability #FarmToTable #Innovation #StartupJourney #ElevateFoods

Deep exhale...and smile! I've traveled 23 of 30 days in June for work. It has been an incredibly enriching and productive stretch of events that I didn't have time to post about individually, so here are some highlights: 🇮🇹 I had the great honor of attending The Climate Reality Project in Rome and meeting former U.S. Vice-President Al Gore, European Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra (NL), and thought leaders like Dr. Bruno Basso. There's consensus that, with the right strategies and financing, agriculture can be shifted from being a driver to a mitigator of the climate crisis, including with protein diversification. Mr. Gore has even converted his ranch in Tennessee into a giant R&D center toward this goal. Special thank you to my friend of 20+ years Erin Taylor for including me. 🇫🇮 Thank you again to ArcticStartup for a great discussion in #Helsinki with friends Janne Saarikko and Maija Itkonen on how the Nordics can accelerate complementary proteins. 🇩🇰 Proud to have been voted in as the newest member of the EIT Food Protein Diversification Think Tank during a meeting in #Aarhus Denmark. We are off to the races including submitting a proposal for a formal collaboration with the governments of the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Investment Bank at COP29 in 🇦🇿 Azerbaijan later this year. 🇧🇪 Held the Annual General Meeting of Cellular Agriculture Europe in Brussels and I was honored that the general assembly voted me in for another term on the board, as well as for an ambitious plan to expand our membership and for public affairs activities in key member states (more on this soon). Welcome to the board of directors Anna Handschuh of GOURMEY 🇫🇷, Roman Laus of Mewery 🇨🇿, and Olivia de Talancé of VITAL MEAT 🇫🇷. 🇨🇭 Conducted a workshop with Christian Poppe and Marina Schmidt at the HackSummit in Lausanne for founders and investors interested in doing more effective advocacy work to protect our regulatory and policy pathways in the EU. Also saw wonderful friends like Sonalie Figueiras and Kim Anders Odhner and made new ones with amazing humans like Nicola Spalding, Emilie Dellecker, Arman Anatürk, Camille Bossel, Daniel Skavén Ruben, Laura Hodgkiss, and more 🏴 Mosa Meat was formally inaugurated as a strategic partner with EIT Food at the Region West meeting in Scotland and participated in dozens of strategy conversations on protein diversification, regenerative agriculture, creative financing for a just transition in the food system and more. In particular, I want to thank Richard Zaltzman, Lucy Wallace, and Malte Stumpenhorst for welcoming us into the fold of this incredible network. 🇬🇧 Attended the Alternative Proteins Association annual event in London to celebrate major successes in moving the complementary protein ecosystem forward in the U.K. in the last year. Great to see friends and leaders like Andy Jarvis, Ryan Bethencourt, Benjamina Bollag, John-Felipe Murphy, and Trishala Bopanna.

HackSummit 2024 Recap | Lausanne, Switzerland On June 11-12, our Founder, Selin Arslan, had the privilege of volunteering at HackSummit in Lausanne, Switzerland. We are deeply honored to have participated in this remarkable event, witnessing firsthand the immense potential of innovative startups and the significant contributions the community makes towards sustainable production and sectoral transformation. HackSummit provided us a glimpse of a future where Farmhood stands among pioneering startups delivering science-driven solutions with tangible impact. This event is more than just a gathering; it encompasses a full week of activities and discussions centered on Food and Climate Tech. The enthusiasm and dedication of the Hack community were truly inspiring. Note: Did you spot Farmhood’s Marinated Tomato Chips? 👀🍅✨ We are grateful for the opportunity to be part of this transformative experience! #Farmhood
